Hello again Christine,

We just cruise the boards offering help wherever it is required.

If I decide to do a look up on ScotlandsPeople, I use my own money and my own time.

It is my perogative to ensure that I do not waste either and I am perfectly within my rights to warn others.

How very rude Christine. I appreciate and respect the time and efforts people have helped me with my research and been grateful to have the leads I've been given to then go on and do more of my own research. I only ask for help when I'm really stuck, as all the helpers on here are volunteers, and without them lots of people wouldn,t have got as far as they have. Also the help I've been given has encouraged me to buy credits and subscribe to other sites. I wouldn't dream of asking someone else if it was going to cost them

If you read the rules of the site, you'll notice that they say to submit a single subject only once.

A person (and their immediate family) is a single subject. One does not start one thread about a person's place of birth, another about their parents' names, etc.

You will also notice that others are not typing in all capital letters, which is difficult to read.

You will also notice that people tend to acknowledge the help that others give them, and say thank you.

I have just explained about ScotlandsPeople in another of your threads, and that wasn't the first time. That is how you get marriage records -- you pay for credits there in order to see the information. There's little point in saying you don't have the marriage record when it is presumably available there. Anyone else who got it for you would just have to spend their own credits to get it.



Heck, maybe if we say it often enough ...

Yes our Christine just wants her whole family tree set out in front of her with the minimum of fuss and for free............
She has been a regular for a few months now always asking for similar families but never giving up any details that she already has so everyone duplicates all the research.

She did post on that thread Janey and was given the exact same census report with all the children on it that had been given to her previously.

Her reply .............................. !

Most eloquent indeed and what about her next offering...... and.

The person who was offering free Scotlands Peoples searches was getting free credits from another site by using different e-mail addresses.......lots of them.

I've used credits for scotlandspeople to help those who are new to all this
and are struggling to get any further with their tree. I've even paid for and downloaded the image and emailed it on to them.

But........ if someone wants their whole Family Tree researched then I'm afraid they need to pay a professional.

I just wish Welsh and English ancestors were so easy and cheap to research!
You can go back several generations for an initial outlay of £6 and no waiting around for certificates to arrive before you can go any further!

There are some very kind, helpful people on here but it would be a shame if anyone took advantage of that....

We do have a member here who has access to Scottish records and offers to help, but I wouldn't pass anyone on to him if it was something that could easily be found out by buying the absolute minimum credits. He'd never get any work done and would probably soon withdraw his offer! If it's something not accessible on line (recent records) or has to do with a living family search and not just curiosity about ancestors, or is particularly complex, then I will.

you can look it up on Scotlands People ....... that is where any other helper will have to go


Then you have to pay per view to see the record ............ which is exactly what anyone else will have to do (unless they happen to have a subscription)

It makes very little sense to have separate threads about the same person's birth and death -- in fact the subject is exactly the same, and all this does is invite people to ask the same questions and do the same work all over. Duplicated subject matter is against the site rules, actually.

You also have other threads about the family. It makes a whole lot more sense to keep immediate family members together in one thread. (In case you're looking at a "surname board" and think the connections among the threads should be obvious, click on the "click here" up at the top of the trying to find list and you'll see that they appear on the main board and that's where we other members see them, nowhere near each other with no indication of any other threads in sight. ... Although in this case you have one on Records and one on Trying to Find, so there's no hope of the rest of us making the connection. I did a search.)

By the way, you can "look up" in the exact same place as anyone else -- www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk!

Think he may have possibly died late 1950s and almost certain it would have been Glasgow

roughly when did he die, was he still in Glasgow?

Can anyone look up and tell me the date of death of Alexander McCulloch born 1890 Glasgow and married to Jane Mckeon Sept 1921 in Glasgow
