Mitchell library also has burial records for Glasgow if Catherine was buried in the city.I should think there was a time when John had no savings ,so poor relief is still worth a try.My own case was an Irish man losing his wife to a fever ,Mitchell library had a poor relief record as he had been ill himself with the same fever and was not able to work.Gave me a lot of info for him.

Thank you Ellen.
Will follow up both lines of research. How I am going to do it is another problem, apparently there is no indexing of the Glasgow burials and I don't think I can access the poor relief records on line, will investigate.
