Wow, thankyou :) Looks more than promising. The only John i'd found in 1871 was living as a servant as a groom, but this looks more likely

is there any way to do a search on the address given and see who is living there in 1881?

Wayne

Wayne Report 28 Jun 2010 19:57

Definitely a possibility :-)

Wayne

Wayne Report 28 Jun 2010 19:47

Ok so i have the certificate, but i'm still coming up with blanks. Here is the info on the marriage certificate:-

Marriage 14th December 1899

Arthur Edwin Farmer, 21 years, Bachelor, Labourer, 24 Glamorgan Street, Father is John Farmer (deceased), Saddler

Elizabeth Pook, 21 years, Spinster, 24 Stoughton Street, George Pook, Ostler

Witnessed by James Tucker and Mary Farmer (Arthur's mother and stepfather who were soon to marry themselves)

What i don't have in my tree is:- Mary's original surname or her wheareabouts in 1891 or prior to 1881. A marriage date for John Farmer and Mary, a birth date for John or Mary, a death date for John, or any census info on John. Any help with any of these things would be much appreciated...

Wayne Report 28 Jun 2010 17:08

Well
I got the certificate and its better than i could have imagined - got both Arthur and Elizabeth's fathers names :)
Arthur's father John is listed as deceased and the wedding was witnessed by his mother and his stepfather James who at the time were as yet unmarried :)
Thankyou for your help - now to find John and Elizabeth's father George Pook on the census...

Tell me about it Wayne,I have sewn up my pockets as I dont need them.

If you come back here when you have it maybe some more can be found on him.

And its always nice to know an outcome anyhow..

Wayne

Wayne Report 22 Jun 2010 21:29

Well i'm a bit skint for now, but i have ordered the marriage cert for Athur :)

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 22 Jun 2010 21:15

Then you need to flex your plastic I am afraid.

To find anything out about him you need at least one of those certs.
2 would be better in case he lies on marriage cert.

And Mary may have lied on 1881 census that she was married.

Only the certs will tell you.

Wayne

Wayne Report 22 Jun 2010 21:07

Well what i really meant was i found that reference lol
I'm pretty new to all this so don't know what you can and can't look up in person.

FannyByGaslight Report 22 Jun 2010 20:59

I will bet my bottom dollar that Arthur Edwin and Arthur Edward are the same one.
Edwin and Edward are favourites to be mixed up like that.

There is no other birth for those names in the whole of Glamorgan for a few years either way.

You will have to send for it from GRO £9.25p

No certs are able to be viewed except the odd few in London .

I've got the marriage to Elizabeth Pook too :)

So do you mean you have the actual cert or just the ref numbers?
If you have the real thing what does it say for his fathers name and occupation?
As long as he didnt make one up of course for the respectability of a father.

Wayne

Wayne Report 22 Jun 2010 20:53

I've got the marriage to Elizabeth Pook too :) so this shows i'm looking in the right places - and i had the birth but the Edward / Edwin thing made me unsure - do you think its likely the same person?
Whats the best way to view the certificate? While i live in Yorkshire, my girlfriend is at uni in Bristol so its easy enough for me to take a trip to Cardiff next time i'm down there.
Thanks again

Maybe if he is not Illegitimate he will give fathers details on his marriage cert.

This marriage goes with how long he says married on 1911..

Wayne

Wayne Report 22 Jun 2010 20:41

Wow that was quick!
Yep thats the 1901 census and marriage record. I had the 1881 census too but wasn't sure if it was her as there is no sign of Arthur who should be 2 at that time. I wonder where her husband is if she is listed as married too.
I couldn't find either Arthur or Mary on the 1891 census though there is a Kate S from Thornbury married to a Farmer which seems coincidental. Any more?
Thanks guys
