KALGOORUE, April 8.— While being hauled to the surface of a shaft situated about eight miles south-east of Boulder late this afternoon. George Pavich (30),

It was ascertained tonight that Pavich was suffering from a serious injury to his right leg, a cut over the left eye, numerous abrasions and shock. His con dition was reported to be serious. google:

zagreb kosovich

There are several results relating to immigration to Australia, it could be worth having a read, if you're up for spending some time. ;)

This one mentions the present-day Kosovich vintner in Swan

Might be someone worth trying to contact!

Oops, crossed in the post -- you're most welcome from us. We would love it if there were records for people like these available on line! Or anywhere maybe; I have no idea what might survive now after all the conflicts that region has seen ...

Susan, you missed my post on the previous page timestamped 15:53, I guess.

I posted that birth:

Ante KOSOVICH
Christening: 19 JAN 1853 Licki Novi, Hrvatska, Yugoslavia
Father: Stepan KOSOVICH
Mother: Mathia

It appears in the International Genealogical Index as a submitted (unverified) record, but one that looks quite reliable to me. See what I said about it there.

This makes him nearly 60 years old when Mate Marin was born in 1911. This surname is common, and many of the names in the list I linked to on page 1, from the IGI, are repeated in that location within the same time periods. I don't think there is a basis for considering that particular Ante Kosovich to be Mate Marin's father. I would expect to see at least one intervening generation. Unless that Ante was on his second wife, and she was a good 15 years younger than him.

As I explained, you can search for the names at Ancestry without subscribing for the records. If there are records there, your search results will show them, even if you can't see the full records. If you're not finding anything, then there's nothing there. I would be very surprised if there were, I think.

Just a note about Information in trees on Ancestry -- must never ever ever be accepted as true without proof. People who create those trees receive "hints" from the great big tree of the entire universe, and most of us are here to tell you they're often garbage.

(My grx4 grfather, the parish clerk of a tiny parish in Cornwall in the 1700s, had a son, according to four trees at Ancestry, who was born, lived and died in Tennessee. The surname wasn't even the same; it was just a possible variant of my ancestor's. Another ancestor of mine in Cheshire apparently had a grandson born ... wait for it ... 250 years before he was, in the North American colonies. You get the idea.)

We understood that you were on a different clock. It's 9:30 pm where I'm at, and I'm uncommonly tired, so I'm heading home myself. ;)

Thankyou everyone for your replies ,sorry but I had to go to bed.

Mate Marin Kosovich def came to OZ without his parents, they stayed In Yogoslavia,we know all about him and his wife since there marriage children, deaths , ect.

I was hoping someone with world Ancestry may be able to help find his family in Yogoslavia
I think I have found on family search Ante's chrisening, going by the map ref Ginny found for the area.
Ante Kosovich bn 19 Jan 1853 Licki Novi, Hrvatska.
His parents are Stepan and Mathia.

Thankyou all for your work I really appreciate the help.

EDITE
The Swan Area is about 10klm from Perth all of those names are connected some how... I do not know the details of all his family to say for sure who is who.
I have deleted the thread from March, there was no information for me on that thread.
Thankyou again.... I will have to have more talks with my neighbour.

JaneyCanuck Report 14 Jul 2010 17:05

Maybe Susan can ask her neighbour for some more names?

He must have an idea of who his aunts and uncles (siblings of Mate Marin) were. Maybe even their spouses ... maybe even their kids ...

Unless we're on a total wrong track and Mate Marin went to Australia alone, not with parents / grandparents / uncles / aunts / siblings.

JaneyCanuck Report 14 Jul 2010 17:01

I was just thinking that Barisa would have been a little old when he died ... like really old -- per the info we have, he had a grandson born c1911. That makes him born c1870 at the latest really.

And that would make no sense if his *son* Ante died sometime not long after 1954 at the age of 85 ... making him born 1870ish ...

Why are none of *our* Kosovich-s indexed in the WA BMDs??? But note the apparently spare Mate-s dying in 1927 and 1964 ... I have to go remind myself when our Mate died; we do know?

Gee

Gee Report 14 Jul 2010 16:56

Is the Swan district just south of Perth?

If so that Barisa death could be right if he was in hospital?

JaneyCanuck Report 14 Jul 2010 16:41
