Thanks anyway Jennifer. I am guessing deaths are always registered? It was most kind of you to do that.....I am thinking one of two things either my MIL was trying to take my wife off the trail so she wouldn't go looking and he isn't dead. Or his surname was Dodds? Maybe we will try for a little while longer.
There was a posting on this site for a Julia Bulcock, looking for someone who maybe related to a Brian Hall, but it was back in 2003 I have written to her as a friend of ours has but no luck she may have even left and not be subscribing here anymore. Any suggestions how else I can touch base with her would be gratefully received. Cheers Mike

Mike I don't want you to waste any money so I looked for a corresponding birth for a Brian Hall as above and there is one registered in Newcastle in 3rd Q of 1939 but mother's maiden name is Henderson.

Sorry, Jennifer

Thank you I will try and buy the cert for this one. My MIL has already passed away and would say nothing before she died. There was a lot of hurt of this gentleman. Or should I say the relationship that lead to this gent?
Cheers Mike

found the 1939 Marriage in Luton of you parent's in law, sorry I misunderstood and thought that Dodds had married Hall.

Is your MIL still alive? If so you really need to ask her more before all that she knows goes with her. We had a similar situation with my husband's father and if we had not asked his aunt who has now died we would forever have been in the dark.

sorry you have lost me a bit.

You are saying that Albert E Dodds was the father of Brian. Albert then married somone else (your wife's mother) . Lizzie Hall was the name of the woman who had Brian who kept Brian and your FIL paid maintenace.

Have I got this right?

Mike Report 14 Jul 2010 15:31

First off thank you for helping it is very kind of you. We started looking in Hall. We felt because it was a long time ago she might have taken my wife's maiden name. We do know that she never had him adopted as my Father in law paid maintenance.......So he should have!

RutlandBelle Report 14 Jul 2010 15:29

sorry Mike but there are no marriages coming up in Bedfordshire between Hall and Dodds.

I just thought that Mary E Hall could have been Mary Elizabeth and you said she was called Lizzie- just making a wild guess

Mike

Mike Report 14 Jul 2010 15:24

Yes the only problem is my in laws were married in Luton Bedfordshire if it is him he had two wives!!!

RutlandBelle

RutlandBelle Report 14 Jul 2010 15:22

Mike the marriage above was reg in the first Q of 1940 but obviously could have taken place in late 1939.

If the mother was unmarried the child may have been registered in her name which was Hall

RutlandBelle

RutlandBelle Report 14 Jul 2010 15:19

is this the marriage you are referring to in your initial post

Name: Mary E Hall
Spouse Surname: Dodds
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1940
Registration district: South Shields
Registration county (inferred): Durham
Volume Number: 10a
Page Number: 1959
spouse: Albert E Dodds

Unfortunately the only way to get more info is to purchase actual certificates.

No sorry I never explained myself properly. He would have died in 1988ish. He died just before my Father in Law. It could well be the middle one, we were kind of thinking around 1937/8 as the In laws got married in 1939. My wife has no living relatives that knew a lot about him. She only found out his name because her Mother let the name slip.

RutlandBelle Report 14 Jul 2010 15:08

so if your FI L died in 1988 then you are looking for a death of Brian Dodds around 1966?

RutlandBelle

RutlandBelle Report 14 Jul 2010 15:05

there are 3 Brian Dodds born 1934:

Births Jun 1934
Dodds Brian Havelock S.Shields. 10a 1192

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Sep 1934

Dodds Brian Dodds Darlington 10a 27

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1934

Dodds Brian Paisley Gateshead 10a 1295

as you see the middle one has a mother's maiden name of Dodds which probably means she was unmarried. The other 2 have a maiden name of Havelock and Paisley

Arrrrr took me ages to type that!!! I will try again!
My wife had a half brother, there are a lot of "I think"......We think his christian name was Brian (Bryan). His Mother's name was Lizzie Hall and his Father's Albert Edward Dodds. He was born around the 1937/8, my wife was told by my Mother in Law he died around 20+ years ago just before her (their) Father. Which is pretty much when she found out about him! He was born around the Northumberland area maybe Newbiggen or Ashington. Possibly Durham in the UK.
We live in Western Australia which is why we have had so much trouble even knowing where to start!
There is absolutely NO agenda in us wanting to find him. The only thing she'd love is a photograph of him.
Thank you to anyone that can help us...Or at least try.
