David,

I know this might sound a little off the wall, as the death was fairly recent, have you tried googling her name and seeing if any local papers have a family Obituary?

It's quite plausable in this technological that she might have one. I know 2 family members whom have died since 2006, i have managed to get details of the death (date and place) from online Obit's

Middle initial W.

Per various info there are two marriages that are possible -- one in Southend-on-Sea and one the next year in Cambridge (you had told me he was last seen in Cambridgeshire). Will PM the two.

Okay David - re PMs - that's all I wanted was confirmation of the surname. And I see you've continued in the same thread, which is good.

I will have a look (and will add a note here to let other readers know if anything is sent by PM).

Will do ...

I know ... the only member of my dad's family who would have known anything about the early days was his eldest sister, born before they immigrated to Canada (actually born in Ireland c1920 when my grfather was in the English military there, imagine the tales I never asked my grmother about). She is a horrible person. Nobody talked to her if they could avoid it. Lifelong raving hypochondriac, she has outlived her three younger siblings, but unfortunately now, even if I had bit my tongue (something she never did) and tried to talk to her, she would no longer remember ...

You're quite welcome - I wasn't even thinking that maybe that death cert would be of as much interest as the other!

I think I've identified what is likely to be his marriage. Do you need that info -- and any identifiable kids? I won't hunt if you already have it.

The only other place to check, just in case FreeBMD hadn't transcribed (there is still the odd missing bit for those periods, I think), is Ancestry, in the index starting 1916 there (which is separate from FreeBMD's).

Only the two births, 1920 and 1921, show there for Evans-Newton in Rochford reg dist / Essex.

Corinne's explanation does sound like the likely one!

If you do want to be in touch with her family, though, are the GR members I mentioned likely to be descendants? I assume you're not in touch with the two children's children/grandchildren (who would know what you were asking).

for info:

Name: Sidney W Evans
Mother's Maiden Surname: Newton
Date of Registration: Apr May Jun 1920
Registration district: Rochford
Registration county: Essex, Suffolk
Volume Number: 4a
Page Number: 1522

likely his death:

Name: Sidney William Evans
Birth Date: 20 Mar 1920
Death Registration Month/Year: May 1997
Age at death (estimated): 77
Registration district: Greenwich
Inferred County: London
Register number: B69
District and Subdistrict: 2291B
Entry number: 9

Although they were married for 5 yrs before Sidney Jnr was born, don't forget that there was a war on between 1914-18. Chances are that Sidney Snr was away fighting.

Was there some info in particular you wanted from her death certificate? It might be possible to dig it up some other way.

You meant she was born 1921, not 1821?

Or maybe you're looking for her secret. ;)

Also, if you're the right relationship, you'd be able to get the certificate anyway. You don't know any immediate family?

Are you already in contact with the two other people who have her (same place of birth) in their trees here at GR?

as far as I know no BMDs after 2005, you would need exact dates and visit the local office a recent electoral roll may narrow the area
