Think you could be on to something Mel - Forster Leighton married Agnes per the 1911.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Oct 2012 14:10

I think you will find that the 1911 census William has put Mr. William Rawe.

Thinking about the marriage I am pretty sure the one I posted above is the right one but only by buying it will you actually find out.

I do honestly think Edith Miller to William Raine is the correct one.

Just look at the spellings from the typing of both the names and you could see how easily it would be to read the surname as Raine.

What is any one elses thought please?

Ho ho ho I have just noticed that on the 1911 census poor Olive is down as Clive!!!! :-S :-S :-S

I agree Mel, would be well worth Sandy getting a copy of that cert.

Also, I can't see a couple actually called RAINE in the Durham area on the 1911 that would correspond to that marriage.

Think this could be Edith with her parents.

Note the mother's name Eleanor (Nellie) and her sister Isabella. Also I think there was a Isabella in Wiliam's family pos his mother.

I have just recived another e-mail which saya Edith had a sister called Bella no surname and that she lived at Blackhall Rocks

Also says that Olive sister Bella married a David or Richard Lamb about 1932

Thank you Sandy

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 21 Oct 2012 14:20

Sandy, Bella would most likely be the Isabella that is on the 1911 that I posted on page 1.

She married as Isabella:

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Sep 1932
Lamb Richard A Rawe Chester-le-S 10a 1099
Rawe Isabella Lamb Chester le Street. 10a 1099

Will be back in a few mins with William's service records .....

British Army WWI Service Records, 1914-1920
Name: William Rawe
Residence: Heppels Cottages Newfield, Newcastle-on-Tyne
Document Year: 1915
Regimental Number: 1860??
Regiment Name: (Res) Northumbrian Field Ambulance RAMC
Number of images: 37

Unfortunately, the page where it gives details of marriage and children is incomplete. It does mention his wife Edith and that he had been employed at Pelton colliery so the right chap.

If my grandmother surname is Miller maybe that was her father surname

I other thing that just come to me When i was a child the family story was that my mother family own Lambs crisps and that it was sold to Smiths crisps

Thank you Sandy

ps there was a story that we own a undertakers too

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 21 Oct 2012 14:41

Sandy - your grandmother's surname was Miller because that was her mother's surname. Illegitimate children are registered with their mother's surname. It's quite possible that William Rawe was her father as he married her mother soon after Olive's birth but you'll probably not be able to prove that.

You could order a copy of that 1909 birth that we've already posted.

I think the marriage cert too as I am sure it is the right one.
