On 1901 William P is down as 'living on own means', and 1911 Farmer.

The Cambridge Alumni comes from Ancestry.

I think with this whole family there is a lot dotted about! :-))

Chris :)

(seems to be a Private Member Tree on Ancestry with Robert P)

Thank you Chris and T this is very interesting to me! Just out of interest of confirming William Preston Gill in 1901 and 1911 what is his occupation? That would probably confirm either way.

Thank you also for the information on Camebridge which is fascinating also! Where did you get the Cambridge University Alumni information from? Also, does it say what William Preston Gill got his BA in? And, does it state why he died in Ireland?

Thank you again!

Chris Ho, thank you for the 1911! This is much appreciated!

Also, T in Middx, thank you for the look up in the newspaper! No wonder I couldn't find a death if it occured in Scotland! I wonder if it was at some grand party in the Highlands? Perhaps I am just being romantic!

Thank you and I have just registered to be a member of Lancashire library! So I am check the newspapers soon! I look forward to reading reports and notices about my posh relations!

While we are on the subject, can I ask for a further look-up; It seems as though out of the the four children of Robert Preston Gill and Eleanor Lawrence Gill, only one married.

Can someone look in 1901 and 1911 for the other two siblings:

1) William Preston Gill, born 1865 in Manchester
2) Eleanor Simpson Worrall, born 1867 in Manchester (wife of Charles Francis Worrall born 1862, and who is staying with the Gill family in 1891 just before his marriage).

Thank you so much for all of your help! This is amazing to find all of this out!

Well I am flabbergasted! I had no idea I was related, albeit very distantly to such a wealthy family! I am quite shocked!

If anyone is able too, can you possibly look for the 1911?

I've looked and looked for the death of Robert Preston Gill, who was 82 in 1901 but nothing that I can see. I also looked on Free BMD for his sons but nothing is jumping out, so perhaps they emmigrated!

I'm just shocked; even though Eleanor's father was a Merchant, her maternal grandfather Thomas Brett (Philli's father, died in a workhouse). Philis' brother, my ancestor also died in a workhouse after trying to commit suicide for his destitution, and another brother killed himself after financial troubles. A cousin of Eleanor, my ancestor was in court three times for petty theft, and another cousin of hers hung himself in 1900 due to troubles with his buisness!

I do wonder if I have gone down the wrong route, even though the facts seem to match. I am just surprised that socailly Eleanor was 'allowed' to marry into such affulence, when some of her living relatives were destitute and living in abject poverty! I wonder if they all knew of one another?!

Anyone got any opinions?

Thank you Julia!
