Guess what I just found :)) I was looking at all the Johnston childrens deaths in Birmingham and I came upon this one -

Hi Christine I will try that as well myra is still alive but lives in yorkshire and has never been close to the family in birmingham ,only her own brothers and sisters not their off springs and since margaret died we have not seen or heard from her ,i will let you know what i find out in due course .

Actually, if you know for sure that Myra was Margaret's sister you may be better to order Myra's birth certificate. That way you would see if Margarets mother had been married before which might explain the problem. If Myra is still alive can't she tell you what her father and mothers names were and a bit more family information perhaps?

Hi christine yes she was my mother in law she died january 2007 in birmingham . i have sent for her birth certificate so hopefully the problem will be solved very soon and once again thank you for all your help.

Did you say that Margaret was your mother in law Lynn? When/where did she die?

Sorry, I have just realised that you meant you had got Margaret's marriage certificate and her father was William. I was getting mixed up with the Lizzie Jones and Thomas Johnston marriage.

As for Margaret birth record. I don't know if you know this but they had 6 weeks to register a child. So it could be in the June quarter or the September quarter.

There are actually 2 Margaret Johnston births in the September quarter too.

When i checked her birth registration she is the only Margaret Johnston registered in 1930 she had no middle name [27th may 1930] when i crossed checked the parents marriage june 1927 there was a Lizzie Jones and Thomas Johnston in Garstang Lancashire a bit more than just luck,i have put in Johnston and Gallacher marriages and it comes up with nothing at all .I still cannot find either William or Edward and they are definitely all brothers and sisters. I hope all your knowledge will be able to help me sort this out .

When you say 'when you trace her birth it states dad as Thomas' what do mean trace? If you haven't got her birth certificate where did you get the name Thomas from please?

It sounds on the face of it as though you perhaps either have the wrong marriage or the wrong birth. You need to start from what youabsolutely know for a fact and work backwards. Do you know for instance that those children born with mmn Gallacher are definitely her brothers and sisters?

i have got the marriage certificate and it states her fathers name as william johnston but no mothers name ! so now i will send for the birth certificate ! but when you trace her birth it states her dad as thomas !

im going in to birmingham so i will go into the office and get a copy ..... what a tangled web was woven back in the day !

well she did have children over a long period of time cause margaret was born in 1930 and william was born before that and myra in 1948,so back then you just don't know thank you so much for all your help

What makes you think the other births with mmn Gallacher are the same family? It's all very confusing.
Have you got Margarets marriage certificate?

I have just been looking and the only death for a Lizzie Johnston in Birmingham I can find is this one - which would have made her about 56/57 when Myra was born. Perhaps not impossible but fairly unlikely I would have thought?

I imagine that it's because they were her sisters and brothers that you know the names of all the others?

i have got the right birth for margaret as she was my mother in law, and when i cross checked her parents marriage they married in garstang in june 1927 their names were lizzie jones and thomas johnston,and margaret was born in garstang if i could find william who was the eldest it would confirm that her record is correct,margaret never spoke about her parents i know her mom died before the dad and they both died in birmingham ,but whether she was her mom or step mom i don't know it's all so confusing margaret's birthday was 27th may 1930 and she died 23rd january 2007 making her 76 when she died,so where gallacher came from i don't know a second marriage ,or her mom died ! also there was another daughter who was about 3 or 4when she died in an accident who was born after margaret but i don't know any more it's all hearsay thats been passed around at family get togethers
