Someone once told me there was a Baylis(s) family vault in Birmingham. I wonder if that is a connection to this family!!

Re the 1871 census
Is young Annie, the niece a sibling of Frederick and living with her uncle because her father (John ? ) is ill or deceased?
This might mean looking for his death any time after her conception.....?


Do we need to track back from William, the head, in order to find his brother John? and more of the family?

Tracing back would confirm how the London based relatives are connected to Frederick John.

I find it interesting that he already had somewhere to go when he arrived there.

I had assumed the search for work was the reason, but bereavement could have been another...

So.... yes please if possible

Annie is still with her aunt and uncle in 1881 -

Frederick John had met, married and had a son by 1881, but Annie would have been too young to have left home yet - I would have thought...

It would seem that the men of the family all worked with wood,
( Frederick's father John is shown as a cabinet maker ( deceased in 1877 ) so perhaps Frederick's skill was more suited to the London area.
Can we guess that John died between 1864 and 1877.... although Annie may be the child of another of William's siblings, of course.

I wonder if Annie married in the London area, .... with her record( and therefore father ) on LMA records on Ancestry ?

or is that hoping too much.......

It would be a possible start and Annie could, indeed, be a cousin rather than a sister.

I'm tempted to use the bmd, but I don't think Middlesex/London has one like Cheshire or Lancashire where you can view the spousal name on the marriage record!!

I think you have found the correct gfamily on the 1901 census as Frederick John Bayliss's son Frederick William, mentioned his sister, Ada, in his will. She had married by then and her last name was Moss.
