William is on the 1891 census with Sarah, i think in the 1901 census Sarah was in a home for a while sick, i think walter the youngest son is listed with his grandfather John Steel(stell) or uncle. I know that in later years when my grandfather Alfred their youngest child was a married man himself. William walked with a limp as if he injured his leg.

FannyByGaslight Report 5 Sep 2010 22:30

So do you have him on any census after 1881 with occupation "blacksmith" Sheena?.

I am unable to find one as is Chris by the look of it.

Maybe he suffered from ill health and could not carry on being a Smith as you need to be strong for that job..

Katie Report 4 Sep 2010 23:42

The Coombes form is such a mess they might have got the childrens' ages wrong. After all William is a 'wife' and sarah a 'husband'. John William could easily be 1 not 7 - fits better with the marriage.

Night Sheena.

Yes Jan.

Parents are on there but not been transcribed, but I can see maybe why not as Mr Coombes or whoever filled it out has made quite a mess of it....

Well it certainly looks like the family to me.

Maybe some of the children died and others were named for them, that often happened.

But all the name are correct...
