Thanks Dee for letting me know.

I am wondering with all these dates on the marriage whether that is why the name suddenly changed....... maybe one of them couldnt get married so changed the name and that is why the rest of the family would never talk about it !!!!!!!!!

Well, it explains the Ashby/Inch mystery for Michelle.

Noel's grandfather was technically born out of wedlock (although his parents did eventually marry in 1914) so was an Ashby but was probably justified in calling himself Head.

what a great explanation for Michelle, and what an interesting hunt. Really enjoyed this one.

Michelle, if you do go onto Ancestry .co.uk then I would check out that tree with the family in, you can send a message to the tree owner and see what relation they are to you,
