Do you have place of birth for Annie? and parents?

I think Vanessa is trying to work out the relationship of the Phillips family with Annie and Abraham ........ ie, were they actually related.

A problem made difficult by the fact that legal adoption didn't take place until mid 1927 or thereabouts.

I guess the first step might be to find out who the Phillips were ............. what was Mrs Phillips maiden name for example.

Vanessa ....... do you know the names of the Phillips family please?

The legal process of adoption didn't come into being until 1927.

My great grandfather and his sister were orphaned and then " brought up" for many years by a family who lived in the same street. This family were no relation at all to the "adopted" children.............they were simply very kind and loving.

Pam Report 13 Oct 2010 22:38

There may be no connection with the family called Phillips. Prior to 1927 there was no official adoption and children were 'farmed out' to whoever would have them.

My great grandmother died when my grandfather was 3 years old. He appears to have lived with numerous families until he was old enough to work and none of these families were related to my ancestors.

So you want to look at both families to see if they were adopted by a relative?
