Omg I think you have found the bultitude part!
my great aunt insists that the family name was a hyphenated one being bultitude-Adams but that as bultitude was German and Adams was Jewish, the bultitude part was dropped.

I think you've found when this happened. amazing!

I wonder if this is Charles Brown, age 4 on that 1851 Census

It's from a Public Family Tree on ancestry. It says his father is William Bultitude (d. 1842), no name for mother. His siblings are shown as George Bultitude (1835 – ) and James Bultitude (1837 – ), and one of his children is called James Brown Bultittude

I couldn't find births for Susanna(h) nor William Edward under Adams, so I went looking for a William Edward birth (no surname)

I found the following one for William Edward Bultitude

Ruth - where are you paying £20?

Certificates cost £9.25 online from General Records Office (GRO) http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ and this includes UK postage. I'm not sure of the rates for overseas postage but still shouldn't be £20.
