Good Luck - Should also mention that in 1891 George - son of Jemima is listed as being born in Stratford which matches the 1901 record of birth

Hi Kayx

Thanks very much for your time and trouble I do appreciate it, and especially at that time of the day!

I think I will have to join Ancestry it seems to be a better site for miliatry information. If I still struggle I will get back to you, if thats ok.

Thanks again for all your help.

Regards Carol

Carol,

I really think previous people are correct and the George living with Jemima is the correct one even though George is listed as hos father. The military records on Ancestry list both his wife and mother in the same record and list all his children.

There are no other Jemima Bennett's that I can see that would fit as his mother. When I said that the father on a marriage cert could be list as deceased if he had died this doesn't always happen, If his father died when George was young he may have mixed up his first name.

Have you looked at the miliatry records on Ancestry? If not I think you would find the detial useful. I am off to work now but if you send me a pm with your email address I will try to download them this weekend and send you them.

Hi
I'm still looking for George Sidney(Sydney)Bennett. I think it is him on the 1901 census born in Stratford, London in1873 and living in Whittingham, Staffordshire with Lydia, although it says Minnier her name was Lydia Minna Issabell but I still cant find his actual birth. It is very confusing because the birth certificate that I sent for refers to George Sydney born 12th March 1872 Maryland Road Stratford but father George not Charles as on the marriage certificate. Could this be the same I don't no, also George has died by the 1891 census and it dosen't say deceased against the fathers name on the marriage certificate.
I would be very gratefull for any help!
Thanks Carol

The father doesn't have to be alive to be entered but often deceased was listed by the father's name if he had already died

Hi Mary
I'm still not sure because the father is dead on the 1891 census.
Many thanks

It looks to me that George solicitors clerk with Jemima is the same person as Charles a clerk on marriage certificate, the coincidences are too close to be a completely different person if you get my drift.

Now we need to find marriage of Jemima to George/Charles Bennett.

I sent for the birth certificate for George Sydney born West Ham 1872, mother is Jemima father George. This is not the right George Bennett that I am looking for because Jemima was a widow in the 1891 census and on the wedding certificate their is a father Charles. So again I'm not sure where to look to find George.
I'm not sure about the age on the wedding certificate but he was older than Lydia she was only 19!

I cannot find the family with mother Jemima and father Charles.
However, the 1871 census that was found with father George, George's occupation is solicitor's clerk - so perhaps he did not like the name Charles?
You probably need the birth certificate specifying Mother Jemima, and see what you get for Father.
(His age on the marriage certificate might not be accurate, particularly if he were younger than his wife)

Hello, I have the marriage certificate of George Sidney Bennett & Lydia Minna Williams now, the marriage took place on the 12 August 1900 and he was 26 which would make his year of birth more likely to be 1873. I have always thought it was 1872 because he died in August 1945 aged 73! On the certificate it states his fathers name as Charles and his occupation a clerk. Can ask Mary, where did you find the information he had joined the army twice?

Follow the instructions
and ask for the marriage using the information:

Marriages Sep 1900
Bennett George Sidney Leominster 6a 1147

so that the GRO Index Reference Number is known.
