Hello Aileen, yes George was a coachman as stated on his son John's marriage certificate.
I have the marriage certificate of George and Agnes married Turriff, Aberdeenshire. 1809.
John married first of all to my great grandmother in Culter, to Hannah Douglas, 1852, she died in 1858 in Aberdeen, then John remarried in 1866 near Longside Aberdeenshire. He later moved to Newcastle upon Tyne where a son was born, then to Montrose where a daughter was born, John died in Newcastle upon Tyne.
I wonder if George perhaps followed him to either place.?

Looking at this logically - so John born in 1814 married in 1866? Was that his first marriage please? What was his age and occupation please?

In a PM Christina gives George's occupation as a Coachman.

Fife is a wee bit far away from Aberdeenshire (though not impossible) so I think Angus is a better bet.

Hi Christina,
can you give answers here as to
George's occupation on John's marriage cert?
How you know that Goerge and Agnes married in Turriff 1809?
Where and to whom John married in 1866?

I just did a census check for all over scotland with the names George Ross and Agnes, found a couple, with these names, in St Andrews, Fife age 58 and 50, states he is a weaver. Says Y to being born in County. Something as been written alongside Agnes as an occupation but then successfully scribbled out! Those ages would have them born 1783 making him 26 when the married in 1809 and she born 1791 making her 18 at marriage, all very logical! what now?

Dee and Linda don't you think it is interesting that George and Agnes only had 2 sons? perhaps she died afterwards? or maybe the George born 1810 that one of you found married to Ann was another son? I know the records can be mixed up...

I have just been in on Scotlandspeople this morning and have printed off the death of GEORGE ROSS' between 1866 - 1895, only printed the first page.
No George's died in Aberdeenshire, 3 in Angus, so the Angus ones may be worth looking at? what would you are researchers say to this?

Searching for George Ross for a long time now, married in 1809 in Turriff Aberdeenshire to AGNES THOMSON.
George was still alive in 1866 when his son JOHN was married.
This couple had 2 sons that I know of James born Turriff 1811 and John born Turriff 1814, John is my direct ancestor.
Thanks for any help with the ROSS.
As far as Agnes goes all I know is her marriage date.
George and Agnes are my Gr Gr Grandparents paternal side.
