Heh, I'll take Roses! There's a thread on Tips -- the new management here is sending selected people invitations to become "official" helpers (I didn't get one) and promising goodies like free platinum memberships and a prezzie at Christmas. Everybody figures it will be a tin of Roses, and I didn't know what they were. ;)

Unfortunatley no,I haven't got MMD Snr's baptism date.

According to my sisterinlaw,MMD Snr was discharged from St Teresa's mother and baby home on 13/2/54 and then went to work as an assistant nurse at Singleton Nursing home.

Jean -- where does the info about MMD Sr's parents' names come from?

Jean

Jean Report 12 Nov 2010 20:28

I got the information from the records office in Dublin when I went to visit my husbands family,it was a few years ago,i wished I had investigated more.

A social worker years ago told my sisterinlaw that her birth mother was from Dublin?and so that why I went to the gro in Dublin and found an one entry for a Margaret Mary Dalton as i recall born in 1922.And then the parents James and Margaret McCarthy, also a son named James.

So it seems you did find her birth record -- if you can do that again, we can have her date of birth!!

This is the one I mentioned earlier that I'd looked at yesterday:

Name: Margaret Mary Dalton
Registration District: Dublin South
Event Type: BIRTHS
Registration Quarter and Year: Jul - Sep 1922
Estimated Birth Year:
Age (at Death):
Mother's Maiden Name:
Film Number: 101229
Volume Number: 2
Page Number: 426
Digital Folder Number: 4194699
Image Number: 00105
Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958

It kind of has to be her, I'd think.

I don't know offhand how to order certificates from Ireland, but I think a quick google would find the answer.

For example:

58 people named Margaret Mary and born in July 1922 died in England/Wales 1969-2005.

With an exact date, there should be only 2 or 3 matches, I'd think. That's not to say any of them would be your MMD -- she could have died before 1969, she could have left England, the person who registered her death might have been mistaken about her date of birth, etc. But it would give us the known "set" to investigate.

Maybe it should be James Dalton formerly of North Brunswick St I shouldbe looking for for.I also once put a piece in the Irelands Own magazine, some chap contacted me and said he remembered Margaret but everyone called her Jenny or Jennie.

It wouldn't likely matter what everyone called her -- she would have married and died as Margaret Mary, in all likelihood.

Someone at GR has a James Dalton born 1885 in Dublin in their tree. He doesn't have a Mary McCarthy, but 5 people do have mary McCarthys born 1892-2900 (I searched for 1885 to 1905). Have you considered contacting them?

See what I added to my post above, too, about searching deaths in England.

I seem to get just more confused.

Your sister-in-law was born Dalton and was adopted by Daltons?

You have her in your tree under her adoptive name. But any members of her mother's family aren't going to know her by that name, are they? I meant to put her there under her birth name.

You can do both. Just pretend that her birth name is a completely different person, a sister of herself.

You also don't seem to have MMD Sr in your tree still. That was what I meant, since she is the one you're actually looking for.

Jean Report 12 Nov 2010 21:04

No Dalton is her birth name,Henry was her adoptive name

where did you find the deaths between 1969-2005?

Deaths are in the index at Ancestry; you need a subscription to see details (you can get a 14-day free trial).

You can try it out: click "Exact matches only" and search for Margaret Mary, no surname, born July 1922, for instance.

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=7579&enc=1

Having an actual date would make the number of results for deaths with matching birthdates manageable.

FreeBMD hasn't transcribed far enough along to be useful for this.
