We haven,t got MMD Sr's exact dob,but as my sisterinlaw was born Feb 53 and her birth mother was 30 yrs old at the time,so it would be between Feb 1922 to Feb 1923,

thanks Janey

Somewhere in the various records I was searching last night I did see something with Margaret Mary Dalton. It will be late today before I get a chance to do it again, but I'll try retracing. It was likely the same birth record you've seen, though. Meanwhile, do you have MMD Sr's exact date of birth?

The marriage I had seen was middle initial J, so that's out, unfortunately. There are two MMD marriages in Lancashiire after the birth: 1959 in Chorley and 1961 in Manchester.

I have just found out that Margaret Mary Dalton worked as a bus conductress and later worked as an assistant nurse at Singleton nursing home, unfortunatly,it doesnt exist anymore. My sisterinlaw was adopted through the catholic society and we think was born at St Teresas mother and baby home. Her adoptive date was 2/6/1954.We worked out that her birth mother would have been around 30 years old at the time of the birth.

she was called Margaret Mary Dalton,do you know the spouses name?My sisterinlaw was named Bernadette by her birth mother.it was later changed by her adoptive parents to (would you believe)Margaret Mary Dalton.

There's a Margaret Dalton marriage not long after in Salford (with a middle initial, however). Have you investigated that one?

Well, Jean, the fact that you maykeep posting more threads about the same thing could have something to do with it. The law of diminishing returns ...

The rules here say no duplicate threads.

People like me who see "still trying to find" think: Yup, this isn't the first one of these, and I have no idea what may have been researched in however many others there were ... so maybe I'll just click on by.

As it turns out, you for some reason posted this request on the Success Stories board, where it doesn't belong and no one can reply to it:
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1248484

And you posted it in 2005 when the only way it was possible to reply to posts was by private message:
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=549769

and it would be so deep in the belly of the archives of this place now that no one would ever see it, unless maybe the looked at the Dalton "surname board", which of course no one except a Dalton family member would ever do.

Have you had other threads then? Must have, or else you're just talking about having had no replies to this post.

Anyway, the only reason anyone ever has zero replies is that no one can think of anything to sugest, or find information. You can be very sure that a number of people have tried. We just don't tend to post "sorry, can't find anything" when that happens.

Your sister-in-law has her birth certificate? No middle name for Margaret? Is her occupation stated there?

In all this time have you not considered putting your sister-in-law's name in a tree here at GR?? And her mother's name, even if the birthdate is approximate. How is family supposed to find her at this site if they search trees for her name and it isn't there? A tiny fraction of users / people with family trees here ever reads the message boards.

Someone has a person in their tree with the same name as your sister-in-law (I identified her birth in the GRO index) but born a year later in Ireland. I don't suppose that might be someone related might who just have the facts a little off? Might be worth trying to contact and enquire?

More than welcome. Sometimes if a child died the parents would name another child in it's memory. So if you believe that Evelyn had a younger brother named James, the James born around 1910 may have died young?
Best of luck.

I know she had a brother James, I think younger than her,I went to the records office in Dublin thats how I found her parents, and maybe she went back to Ireland after my sisterinlaws birth,I know she may have found this difficult as my sisterinlaw was about 9 months old.

Hello Jean,

you're not the only one to get no replies, we've all have certain threads that either didn't ignite interest in people or that the time scale, particularly with Ireland, proves too difficult for most people to help out with. The address you've given in Dublin is actually North Brunswick St. not one word as in Northbrunswick street, i know this is only a small detail but it may prove vital with further research. Coincidentally I went to school in the very same street but not that long ago!!. I had a quick look at the 1911 Irish census at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ and found this:
Dalton James 26 Male Head of Family Roman Catholic, born in Dublin City, occupation G P O (Sorter Tracer) - Married
Dalton Margaret 24 Female Wife Roman Catholic, born in Dublin City
Dalton Joseph 1 Male Son Roman Catholic. Your Margaret could have been born to these parents a decade later. There are other Daltons listed and you'll just have to plough through these. The address given on the 1911 census for this family was only a stones throw away from the North Brunswick Street address of 1922. Most of Dublin was tenament houses at that time and people moved around regularly.

Best of luck in your research,
Patrick.
