I'm trying to trace details of my Grandfather Albert Keiley. He was married to Alice Bell in 1908 aged 23. They were married in Oldham Lancs. He died in Liverpool aged 58 in 1942. His fathers name was James Keiley. These are the only records I can find - can't find any birth records or census entries. Apparently as a child he was placed in an orphanage - mother incapable of looking after him - so he did not talk about his past other than to say he was on an orphanage ship and that they were known as Klyre boys (no idea how to spell this) but can't find records of any such orphanage ships / boats. I'm wondering if the orphanage ship was really some form of juvenile reform ship. His daughter (my mum) is almost 90 so memory is fading but she seems to remember Gloucester being mentioned. Any help would be gratefully received as I really have hit a brick wall on this branch of the family

Thank you all - I am quite new to this so trying to decipher some of your replies. Yes to Patricia Marriage details 8d 806 - I have this certificate.
Jax - They did have a son Albert born 1909 but don't know about an Irish connection.
They did live in Liverpool from about 1911 I think.
The marriage cert gives profession as seaman so entry for 1909 looks promising - where would i be able to check on this info?
Thanks Patricia but I don't think this is him as moved from Oldham to Liverpool and no son called Norman.
Thank you all so much for your help

Births Jun 1909
Keiley Albert Oldham 8d 639

It helps to give as much information as is relevant, as it saves wild guesses.
Thanks

Just sounds like it could be an Irish name, so the son is on the 1911 Albert is probably at sea so where is Alice?

There is an Alice Keeley in Liverpool on the 1911 but my computer is not displaying the free search results for people living with this Alice. Does anyone else have access to check this record?

Finally!!!
DYKIN, Jno 1839 72 M Liverpool Lancashire
KEELEY, Albert 1909 2 M Liverpool Lancashire
KEELEY, Alice 1887 24 F Liverpool Lancashire
KEELEY, Alice 1910 1 F Liverpool Lancashire
PEDLAR, Eliza 1851 60 F Liverpool Lancashire
WALTERS, Mary 1839 72 F Liverpool Lancashire

Full entry would still be good for relationships

By my estimation Alberts year of birth should be 1884/85. Is it possible that his birth was just not registered? I've gone all around the houses looking for variations on Albert Keiley
ie Kiley, kieley, keilleyfor about 10 years either side and still no joy. I'm ok with details from 1908 onwards but can't go any further back without birth or census details prior to 1908.

You can't put much store into the birthplaces in 1911.

Son Albert was born Oldham.
Looks like it was just easier to put them all down as Liverpool

www.findmypast.com. It is a pay per view or subscription site but you can do a certain amount using the free search facility.
As per my post you dont get full details, like the relationship to the head of the house, actual address.
If you're lucky somebody with a subscription may be able to post the full record for you.

Otherwise take a look - I searched for Alice Keiley (inluding variants) b 1884 +/- 5 years using the basic search. I saw the Alice Keeley in Liverpool so went to the advanced search and just entered County (Lancs), Registration district (Liverpool) then went to 'Others in household' and entered Alice Keeley
