are these any use?

baptisms at Holy Trinity Wavertree

James 24 feb 1850

John 28 Feb 1847

William 21 Nov 1852

they fit with West Derby births

Thanks lancashireAnn. The baptisms seem to match up with all three and the one for William makes me think that the birth I found for William Tippin in Dec qtr. is probably the right one. I've sent for the cert. so hopefully it is.

all 3 baptisms say living in Allerton and John is described as a labourer. All listed as Tippin.

Unfortunately the parish register of the marriage at St Nicholas for John & Ellen is not available at the Lancs record office.

Hi lancashireAnn

I'm pretty sure the name must've been Tippin and somewhere along the line got changed to Tipping. The marriage ref I found for John Tippin and Ellen Layton is Dec 1842, Liverpool, 20/273. I know that they are definitely William's parents because there's a family story about Charles and Sarah Ann. I also have the birth cert of Mary Layton Tipping showing John and Ellen Tipping as parents.

Thanks lancashireAnn. I'll probably send for the marriage cert. to get their fathers' names, don't suppose the ref you gave indicated that did it? With everybody's help I'm getting further on than I expected to.

Hi Yvonne,

Thanks for that - it was worth a try!

Good luck with your research.

sorry that marriage ref is from lancs bmd which does not give any more info and I could not look the marriage up as that year is not available in the LRO.

It is on familysearch but no parents name given. The date was 22nd Dec 1842. It may be worth phoning Liverpool as you have the exact date but that does seem to indicate that no parents were named in the parish register so you would still need the marriage certificate.

hi yvonne, I am also a Tipping descendant trying to fathom out the family line. My grandfather was James, a seaman after the army WW1. His father Fred and Grandfather James were watchmakers, but many of the siblings went to sea in 19th and 20th century.I think james circa 1820 may have been a son of Joannis but not sure. He had several children including sons called Robert, Richard and Ed(?) I believe Richard married and emigrated to Australia.I would like to see any other Tipping trees please and hope someone can help me fill in some gaps. thank you for any replies. bex

remember that early parish records were written with latinised names so Joannis is actually John.

Jacobi = James

Maria = Mary (or Maria)

Anna = Ann, Hannah

Helena = frequently Ellen

Thanks for the info lancashireAnn, I didn't know about the latinised names and I've seen a lot of references to Joannis. It'll be interesting to see what info the birth and marriage certs I've ordered give.

Bex, from the info you give I can't see a connection to my Tippin/Tipping line and I don't know how to give you access to my tree or you to give me access to your tree from this part of the site.

Thanks.
