Hi, sorry not been online much. I have photocopies of 6 Alex McKenna's birth certificates that my cousin scanned when she was looking him up at the records office. She said one of them was the right one so I need to scan and enlarge the image to check which one is the correct one as she can't remember.

Good morning

I think you would be well-advised to get Alexander's birth cert...to establish who his parents were.

It seems so strange that he isn't on any census returns

When did Rose die?

Was she described as 'widow' or 'wife' on her death cert?

ok, thanks for your help though.

I did!, but there are so many posts now. A lot of this is from a printed word document she gave me at a family reunion last week and its a nightmare deciphering it.

Any idea how I can get details from a grave as that would have his date of birth on.

To be honest I find the McKenny spelling very odd and wonder if shes grabbed it as it suits the story about Bella.

The Lancs records that were damaged (by water) were parts of the 1851 census..........so they won't be relevant for the time-scale you're looking at just now.

Can't go back there without getting definite info for later years............

I also keep finding the spelling McKenny which is confusing too.
Found it for Alex and Bella

Ruth Report 2 Dec 2010 23:01

I was told somewhere on researching another side of my family also from manchester that many lancashire records were destroyed or damaged in a fire.

Ruth

Ruth Report 2 Dec 2010 23:00

they quite often spelt the name Mc Kenna with a space inbetween, not sure why!

I'm struggling to find anything that will really help you.............

I just can't see any sign of Alexander on ANY census, and Edward and mary (as per 1881) don't appear on later censuses.........

Ruth

Ruth Report 2 Dec 2010 22:58

I'm wondering if the 1960 one is more likely. I don't think he died young from what family say, plus I've just realised he is in a photo with my mum who was born in 1943

Ruth

Ruth Report 2 Dec 2010 22:56

do you know what would be the easiest way to check his birth iscorrect?

Flick

Flick Report 2 Dec 2010 22:53

Neither of those was born in 1885

Ruth

Ruth Report 2 Dec 2010 22:52

have to admit you are very good at this, I appreciate the help!

Ruth

Ruth Report 2 Dec 2010 22:51

yes I use ancestry but the confusing information just doesn't match for Edward.

Her death was spelt McKenny in error

Ruth

Ruth Report 2 Dec 2010 22:50
