I see ....she was visiting her family when the census was taken and the baby was with the neighbours .That would make more sense !! So she could have been Sarah all along . Fascinating

this gets stranger - there is

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1868
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
COSGROVE Cecelia Ancoats Manchester ANC/130/44

Cheshire Birth indexes for the years: 1868

EDIT
probably not the Warrington one the Cosgrave one of Maureen's (below) is the right district as Ashton covers Mossley

MaureeninNY Report 12 Jan 2011 17:29

Well,I think it's this one:
Births Jun 1870
Cosgrave Sarah Ashton 8d 481

Just slightly off,,,and it does say Cosgrave on the actual image.

Naturally,I can't find her in 1871!!

Jayne Report 12 Jan 2011 17:37

she died in 1935 age 65 years according to death certificate ..so that would fit ..

Jayne Report 19 Jan 2011 19:53

Well....a week on and Im still confused .
I ordered the wedding certificate and she is down as CELIA Cosgrove
age 26 married 7th July 1896 to William Connor
so she was Celia on her wedding cert...Cecilia on her sons birth cert , Sarah on 1901 census and Sarah on her death cert. Is she one and the same ?
Its driving us mad :S

Also we found out that Sarah/Celias father came from Galway and her mother from Co Mayo and coincidentally Williams father came from Galway and his mother from C Mayo..(1871 census living in Wood St Cellars Oldham Below Town ).is there any way of finding out if they came over to England at the same time ?
Really appreciate any help and advise given . Thanks :)

Hi Jayne,
I won't be able to help you with the "when they came over" part I don't think, but what did Celia put as an address/father's name/witnesses on the marriage cert??

Maureen

Jayne Report 19 Jan 2011 20:26

Hi Maureen
It was 4 Anthony Street , Mossley Ashton under Lyne
her father was a William Cosgrove .They married at St Josephs Chapel A- U -L

MaureeninNY

MaureeninNY Report 19 Jan 2011 21:41

Well it sure does look like Celia and Sarah are the same person then, right? 4 Anthony St is where she's visiting mother Margaret in 1901.

Best,
Maureen
