> Bevans Florence Ann W.Ham 4a 19
RAYMENT Charles James W. Ham 4a 19
ROGERS Edith Florence W. Ham 4a 19
WILSON Ernest Frederick W. Ham 4a 19

These births seem a tad late, and I don't see a Charles and Flor* Rayment couple in 1911, but there is no other Bevans-Rayment marriage:

Births Mar 1920
Rayment James C Bevans W.Ham 4a 472
Births Sep 1922
Rayment Daisy Bevans W.Ham 4a 335
Births Sep 1924

Death Registration Month/Year: 1969

There is no Florence Ann/ie Bev* birth 1882-1889 in London/Essex.

edit - no - this is that one in 1891 in Monmouthshire

JaneyCanuck Report 19 Jan 2011 23:47

Yikes -- can you copy that for us, jax? how long each surviving child had been married, which one was widowed?

I only ask because you are soooo nice. ;)

So that's where the list Robert gave at the beginning came from. Got it!

I have been searching and searching in 1891 for any of them, and for births, to absolutely no avail.

I tend more and more to think that the older children were children of Elizabeth -- and am waiting w/ bated breath for the info about her name. ;)

jax

jax Report 19 Jan 2011 23:36

I see from the image which you have seen they have named all nine surviving children even though they were not living there. Also saying how long each one had been married and in one case they were widowed

Genes link not much good when you dont use their records I'm affraid

1911 census - household transcription

and yes janey I have noticed you have given the free version

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 19 Jan 2011 22:51

I meant the list of all 9 of the children? My search
(free, at http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx)
only turned up the ones I listed.

The 1901 is surely the same family.

George Bevens 41
Elizabeth Bevens 39
Mary A Bevens 11
Robert Bevens 6
James Bevens 3
Jesse Bevens 6 Months
(no older children with them)

-- btw, the 1901 image actually says Canning Town, not Cannington -- but all of the Bevens household are "ditto" to someone two names above theirs. I would doubt the accuracy.

What does the 1911 say for their birthplaces?

This George in 1881 is a dock labourer, but old:

Name: George Bevan
Age: 29
Estimated birth year: abt 1852
Relation: Son
Father's name: James Bevan
Mother's name: Flora Bevan
Where born: Deptford, Kent, England

Civil Parish: West Ham
County/Island: Essex
Street address: 5 Charlotte St

James Bevan 58 - dock labourer
Flora Bevan 58
George Bevan 29

Just can't spot your George for definite in any year before 1901.

You saw that James Robert's birth was registered as BEVINS?

Robert

Robert Report 19 Jan 2011 22:13

hi all

Right here goes we found that list of names in the 1911 census
below is a link to the 1911 entry that we have been looking at:

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/records/srzoomer.aspx?key=2557922&ff_type=51&srchkey=16275026

We have seen the entry in 1901 spelt Bevens and believe that they are the same family...

George Bevans - in 1911 census states he was a Dock labourer.

My nephew came up with the Wilson link --I have just rung him to look and come back to me to let me know where he got it... Will post that bit as soon as I know

Thank you everyone

JaneyCanuck Report 19 Jan 2011 20:04

Ah, the spellings. ;)

Births Jun 1898
Bevins James Robert W. Ham 4a 150

The household in 1911 in West Ham

BEVANS GEORGE 1861
BEVANS LIZZIE 1863
BEVANS JESSIE 1900
BEVANS JIMMY 1898
BEVANS EDWARD

from OP: "records say 12 chilren born, 9 still living"
and you give this list:

john 1882
george1882
bill1884
flossie?1888
maryann1890
robert 1894
jimmy 1898
jessie 1900
edward 1904

Robert, what is George's occupation in 1911?

And can you say where that list of children came from?

(and don't forget: where does the name Wilson for Elizabeth come from?)

The 1901 census has

George Bevens 41
Elizabeth Bevens 39
Mary A Bevens 11
Robert Bevens 6
James Bevens 3
Jesse Bevens 6 Months

and I can't find them in 1891 ...

Sending Robert the Bevans-News* births from FreeBMD and Ancestry and the Bevans-Woolf births ... and suggesting he take out a 14-day free trial sub at Ancestry to do more searching for all these people!

But first, exhaust what you might be able to find at FreeBMD.

This is the marriage for the 1861 household:

Marriages Sep 1852
BEVANS George Edward Pancras 1b 23
Jones Frances Pancras 1b 23

but I'm thinking the 3-yr-old George in that household is still the wrong one, the one I tracked in later years.

So many things about this family just don't add up!

Can you please explain where the name Elizabeth *Wilson* comes from?

"parents and siblings of george bevans born 1861 barkfield, married elizabeth wilson born 1863,they married in 1881/2"

There's no such marriage, and I can't find such a couple in 1891.

I can't find the birth of a Mary A Bev* to fit 1889-1891 (she is 11 in 1901).

I'm suspecting that she, at least, was a child of Elizabeth's before she married / partnered with George.

There's this birth ...

Births Mar 1889
Wilson Mary Ann W. Ham 4a 32

There's no marriage of a George Bev* to an Elizabeth Wilson (barring transcription errors) 1875-1911.

We have to figure out who George Bevans was before we can identify and try to trace his siblings. ;)

I just assumed that to be Canning Town.

Interesting coincidence in 1891, in Chingford, Essex:

George E S Bevans 33 - born London, Surrey
Phillippa M Bevans 34
Ernest L Bevans 5
Elizabeth Newson 26 - servant

but the 1891 George is an Underwriter, while the 1901 one, who seems to be correct, is a Lighterman (Barge).

Aha, here is Catherine's 1861 George:

Births Dec 1857
Bevans George Ernest Camberwell 1d 455

But no, that's the other George -- in 1881 he is an insurance clerk in Camberwell:

George E. L. Bevans 48
Frances Bevans 50
George E. L. Bevans 23
Edward S.T. Bevans 27
Marianne E. Bevans 25
Alfred H. Bevans 21
William H. Bevans 18
Eleanor Bevans 15
Ethel M. Bevans 12
Herbert J.N. Marshall 19
