Most likely explanation is that one of them was married before. so either they didn't marry or Julia had a different name. Have you looked for previous marriages?
I would love to know the circumstances of their meeting as in 1891 they were both living in their birthplaces!

Thanks Brummiejan for looking that up for me.So that would be around 1895.Any ideas why the marriage can't be found or have i been stupid and made a horrible blooper?

Would anyone please help me with a puzzle please?
I have a Julia Gant born 1873 Thetford Norfolk.
I know she was living in Brandon Suffolk in 1891 from the census.
I believe shorly after that census her mother, Elizabeth, died and she moved to live with her brother in Lewisham,London.This fits in with the family story that she met her purported husband Harry Edgar Atkinson.in tht area.I have found a marriage Sept q 1891 in Lewisham but the marriage is either to William Henry Standen or Joseph Long.(source free bmd).
I have been unable to find any marriage to Harry at all and yet they went on to have a substantial family.
Any ideas please ?Thankyou for reading this.
