Richard you really do need to get the birth certificate, easily done since the registration was easily found.

Tracing people's ancestry based only on what is in a census is never wise.

One might assume that his mother was Mary, but the assumption could be wrong.

As far as spellings, Willy/Willie would be a very minor variation compared to many spelling variants one sees for a single person in various records. Most people were illiterate just for starters.

That doesn't rule out the 1865 'Joseph Willy Dixon' but the age certainly does and there isn't any other reason to think he's connected, although the name could indicate some relationship

Mike posted the 1881 census succinctly but now it is being reposted piece by piece ........

AoGG that christening is too early. ( 1865)
Joe not born until 1877 and he was never Joseph.

Ann

Thanks for the info but Willy is spelt Willie in a copy of the 1911 census but this could be a mispel?

Richard

Lindsey,
I too though that may be the position but if the family group is found in a later or earlier census would that confirm or otherwise?

Trying to find Joe Willie Dixons ancestors. I have found Joe W aged 3 in the 1881 census in Lockwood, Huddersfield listed as Grandson with Ann Dixon listed as Head aged 68 and Mary listed as daughter aged 26 in that census. I have his details from 1901 onwards including his wifes family details. Can anyone help with this family?
