I am sorry to ask again but the family in the 1881 census aren't right. Henry C was killed in the war and my Henry wasn't.
The above Harry is the only one I can find in the Roayl Irish Regt.
Thank you
Elaine

I have found another Harry Brown in The Royal Irish Regiment.

There are 4 addresses on his file.

Thomas Report 27 Feb 2011 16:39

I Have just about given up any hope of finding them.
Do you know when the 1901 census was taken?
Perhaps his Mother died or moved between him joining the Army and the census being taken.

Thomas

Thomas Report 27 Feb 2011 16:19

His address when he got married was 3 Alice Street. He was married at St Mary Magdalin, 25/12/1912. He gives his Father as Henry Deceased, A Porter. His occupation was a Carman but I think that can also mean a Costermonger.
His Address in 1916 when he rejoined the army was 28 Law Street.
On 25th April 1901 he gave his age as 18 years 5 months, Occupation Carman, Born in Southwark, co of Surrey.
He gives his next of kin as his mother Mary Ann Brown, and his Elder brother Harry Brown, Royal Irish Regiment.
There is another address on his discharge document in 1919 of 3 Lansdowne Place but no address for when he joined.
Because his Fathers name was Henry we did think Harry might be Henry but thought we would exhaust the Harry's first.
Thank you for your help.

Who did Joseph marry in 1912?

K

K Report 27 Feb 2011 15:46

Presumably the marriage cert also lists Joseph's father's occupation. Was Joseph in the miltary when he married or does the marriage cert list another occupation?

Potty

Potty Report 27 Feb 2011 15:38

Have you considered that Harry might actually have been a pet name for Henry?

When did Joseph join the Army?
