Seeing as they didn't marry until 1889 the children born before then are from Sarah Ann's first marriage and probably registered under the name of Norton. It's likely that in the 1891 they were on the census under James' surname but under their own in later years.

I cannot see a birth for Thomas Alan, have you got any of the certificates?
Thanks

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 7 Mar 2011 20:11

Hello Rosalie, what was James' occupation on the marriage record, or on any of the census you have found?

Where and when did he marry? - all these little details may help us find them. For example, if we know Sarah Ann's maiden name we can look to see if any of the children were with her family.

Do you know if they were definitely in this country in 1911 or 1901?
Are you just trying to track them, or are you descended from one of them?
Thanks
