wow very interesting, I'm going to send an email right away so should know more in the next few days. It looks like one society has finished and another one has started in it's place. Thanks again from Julie

Looked at that again -- you mean you used the email address at this page

http://www.nbgs.ca/research.html

down at the bottom where it says "Contact NBGS" -- and that was returned?

The site was last updated January 2010 ... that might well be out of date (it's a personal address).

How about here?

http://www.nbgs.ca/genquery.html

You could certainly ask for your own "Query" to be published, too, I'd think.

The surnames listing was last updated in June 2009 ... so the email addresses may well be older than that. But there are actual addresses and phone numbers associated with them too (what a moronic thing to post on the internet!!!). I see the person you're looking at, with both surname interests (one entry has an email address, one doesn't). Per Canada411.ca, the phone number and address are still valid.

http://www.nbgs.ca/surnames-m.html

There's also a reference to that person here

www.frederictonnorthheritage.com/files/Newsletter_2010-May.pdf

so you might reach her through that organization, too.

People post things on the internet with their email addresses at the time ... and then they change ISPs and get new email addresses and don't go back to everywhere they have posted or have accounts and update their info. Happens here all the time.

That's why I recommend a *permanent* account like at Gmail for these purposes.

It can also be anonymous so safer for using on line, e.g. if your parents are Smith and Jones, you could have an account called smith.and.jones.genealogy @Gmail.

well I followed up on all these tips, all good thanks everyone, .I also contacted the Church in Canada , they have no record of Richard over there but the very nice man is contacting the church over here to see if they have any record of him and I'm waiting for him to get back to me. I also had a good look on the New Brunswick Genealogical Society website and tried to contact them and 2 of the menbers listed on their website and all 3 emails came back as undeliverable. Any idea why?

WOW I think I have found the family still alive in NB Canada. The New Brunswick gs has loads of info and I found a lady on there looking for Moore and Young so will try to contact her. Shame there's no email for her though so will have to put an article in their magazine.

The Church Army (do google) seems to be not the Salvation Army and perhaps connected somehow with the Church of England (I haven't perused search results more than summarily).

I did find this one:

http://telegraphjournal.canadaeast.com/rss/article/731755

---------------

Saint John residents give more than $26 million a year to charity, according to recent income-tax documents filed. In some cases, the numbers reflect the 2007 tax season. The total is $26,023,220.

Saint John charities received the following tax-receipted gifts:

... The Church Army in Canada Inc. - $570,454

---------------

So although I've never heard of it in my life, it seems that it still exists, at least in New Brunswick.

Google this

"church army" "new brunswick"

and results include maps for

Church Army National Office
11 Mountain View Drive, Saint John, NB - (506) 642-2210

Anglican Church of Canada - Church Army in Canada
230 Hawthorne Avenue, Saint John, NB

It's possible they would have some records, and just remotely possible that the family would still be involved.

(Canada is a pretty secular society with steeply declining rates of church affiliation, but you never know.)

A bit more:

http://www.churcharmy.org.uk/pub/aboutus/international/Canada.aspx

Church Army in Canada
Threshold Ministries
On 1 May 2010, Church Army in Canada became "Threshold Ministries".

A significant date here maybe:

http://www.thresholdministries.ca/

Threshold Ministries (formerly the Church Army in Canada) maintains a long history of responding to those in need and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, dating back to our founder Wilson Carlile. That same mission that began this Canadian ministry in 1929 continues today: ...

In New Brunswick, birth records from 1888 to 1913, marriage and death records from 1888 to 1958, and some incomplete church and civil records prior to 1888 are in the custody of the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick. Some databases are available on their Web site.

Birth records after 1913, and marriage and death records after 1958 are still in the custody of the:

so is it possible to search records in Canada? does anyone know if there's a local history society in NB and I wonder what church army is

Julie

Julie Report 10 Mar 2011 23:20

It's Frittenden and Hawkhurst. Last known address in Canada was Fredericton New Brunswick. Not sure about the sister at home Richard had a sister Mercy but she was Moore then married an Orpin so maybe Mrs Mercy Madria was Mary's sister. I think Bendin is either Biddenden or Benenden which are both local places

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 10 Mar 2011 23:03

On that 1929 passenger list they were:
Richard, 43, born Prittenden
Mary, wife, 40, born Belfast, Ireland
Richard, son, 18, born Lamberhurst
Alfred, son, 16, born Hankhurst?
Eileen, dau, 8, born Cranbrook
Henry, son, 6, born Staplehurst

Passage was paid by Church Army.
They were going to Church Army, St. John, New Brunswick
Nearest relative at home was sister Mrs. Mercy Madria, Goddard Green, Bendin, Kent.
