His visa was issued Washington on 5 Dec 1934. His residence in US was Canandingua.

Had a brainwave and I found a departure list for William Holloway in 1935 from southampton, there were also departures in 1947 and 1953 for William's born around 1901.
I suspect he may have used the name William as he was known as Bill.

Please could someone help because It would not let me view it!

It wasn't the actual household form it was the household original address (which says the occupier and postal address) on the 1911 census website.
It said 'Name of Head of Family or Seperate Occupier' and it looks like it is signed with a J or a lower case g.
Looking at the household that George signed, he uses capital G's and his handwriting isn't the same.

Could there be a seperate occupier?

Hi Gardener, the census form was completed and signed by George Holloway. Any covers would have been completed by the enumerators.

I've just relised I have no credits left on 1911 Census and I have just noticed that on one of my records I have from a while ago that George Holloway (my great grandfather) listed the head of household/owner of household as J Holloway. This is obviously not him or his wife, so I thought could it be his father? I have found a James Holloway living in Greenwich in 1911. He was born in c.1841 and I wondered could somebody please take a look at the census for me because the Holloway family is a dead end when it comes to researching them.

Not read everything on the thread, but if you are looking for a ship's steward you need the crew lists. They are at Kew. I don't think the lists for the 1920's & 1930's are online.

His exact occupation is a 'Ships Steward'. He is deceased when my mother married (1945). I noticed that on the back of his birth certificate (it is a very old one from 1901) it says William James but the William has been crossed out and replaced with Wilson.
Please could someone see if he appears on any passenger lists as a Ships Steward. Many Thanks.

What was his exact occupation on his marriage certificate? Steward can mean a number of things.

So do you have reason to doubt the accuracy of your mother's information?

Apparently his mother insisted he was called James Holloway. This may or may not be true.
Also as Wilson is such an uncommon name my mother said to search William James so he may be known as that?

My mother mentioned that he died in 1937 in their house. He died of Tuberculosis (TB) apparently.

Did he always go by his first name of Wilson, or did he ever use James?

I'm not finding anything on the former, but may be the latter.

I dont know about that death as I think a totally different person called James W Holloway was born about the same time as Wilson and thats his death that you posted, as far as I know thy are not related.

Actually I dont know if he died. He may have just divorced his wife and moved away. But there are no deaths fo him in the UK (I think). That is why I asked for a passenger list search because I would just like to clear up whether he ever went on a ship because apparently he was a steward.
