My word..........well done ja...x! You're a great researcher.

Obviously, 'thinking out of the box' has worked well on this one.

I would never have worked that puzzle out........so will just stick to letting folks know they have replies....lol

Thank you for suggestions about Jane Cole. I hadn't come across that name before and shall now follow it up. The Jane Chalk I am seeking is definately the younger sister of Frances, born in Whiteparish, Wilts in 1842. Frances was the oldest of the children of James Chalk and Ann Hatcher. The other siblings were James, Annie, Mary Temperance, Frank and Emma.

I have ordered the marriage certificate for Jane Chalk and Thomas Cole. When this arrives I will come back and let you know whether this has solved the mystery of the missing Jane.

Pm from Christine

Hallo Jax,
The marriage certificate for Jane and Thomas Cole arrived today. Jane's maiden name is Chalk and her father is James Chalk, Land Measurer. This was the last occupation of the James Chalk who was the father of "our" Jane so I think there can be no doubt that this is the correct Jane. In addition the last place they lived was Raynes Park and my mother in law remembered being taken as a child to visit a relative in Raynes Park. Many thanks for your help, it has made all the difference.
Best wishes Christine

Thank you for the update Jax.

Just to link in with Frances on OH's tree, her father James CHALK is shown as a land surveyor when she married.
