Just to clarify - Cpl Arthur Edward NORTON, 5729, Rifle Brigade - was my uncle - my Dad's oldest brother - known as Teddy. He died of his wounds on 16 September 1916, just 2 weeks after his 21st birthday. Unmarried. Enlisted aged 19/20.

I'm not having any luck finding a marriage between an Edward Saunders and a Jessie (which could always be a transcription problem), or finding them in 1911 either.

Yes you are both right! Born 1888 to Edward and Jessie. Married Mantell in 1927 (although the marriage cerrificate is interesting ...first he called himself Swain and later corrected it to Mantell...I know that Mantell was married to someone else and had a family who knew nothing about the marriage to Isabella until they started researching family history!)
