Ah, interesting, C2. I hadn't pursued any of the others because I'm working hard this afternoon!

The reason for identifying Ivy's death is to do exactly what you've done there -- to find as much detail about her as possible (specifically a middle name) in order to try to find a marriage between her and WEJ.

If they were married, it is likely that Doris was deceased at the time of the marriage, is the idea. It's possible that Doris didn't die when thought and she and WEJ were divorced, but it's highly unlikely. (It's also possible that WEJ remarried even if his first wife was still living, and that's at least as possible as divorce!)

So you've found the very likely second marriage of WEJ through that process.

That scenario makes perfect sense -- the son married in the London area in 1947, so that may be where the family was in 1941. And then WEJ and his second wife went to live in Norfolk, where she was from.

I wondered about this one Janey but I didn't post it as I'm not sure that Maureen is interested. Ivy isn't her family anyway - This Ivy came from Norfolk, so I wondered if that's why they went back there.

Marriages Sep 1941
AYRES Ivy A Jones Hampstead 1a 1416
Jones William E Ayres Hampstead 1a 1416

Name: Ivy Annie Jones
Birth Date: 4 Nov 1909
Death Registration Month/Year: Mar 2000
Age at death (estimated): 90
Registration district: Fakenham
Inferred County: Norfolk
Register number: 16B
District and Subdistrict: 6351
Entry Number: 138

Births Dec 1909

Births Dec 1915
MANNING Dorothy I L HORNEY Swaffham 4b 479

marriage
Arthur G Jones + Doroghy I L Manning Or Lake Apr-May-Jun 1953 Wisbech Cambridgeshire

so that's not your Ivy who died in King's Lynn. Unless WEJ was using a fake name. ;)

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 4 Apr 2011 19:52

So this is the only likely-looking WEJ death in Norfolk:

Name: William Ernest Jones
Birth Date: 12 Oct 1901
Death Registration Month/Year: 1982
Registration district: Kings Lynn
Inferred County: Norfolk
Volume: 10
Page: 1189

There are deaths for several Ivy Jones born 1900-1915, in Norfolk. This is the only one in King's Lynn:

Name: Dorothy Ivy L Jones
Birth Date: 1 Oct 1915
Death Registration Month/Year: Mar 2004
Age at death (estimated): 88
Registration district: Kings Lynn
Inferred County: Norfolk
Register number: 70A
District and Subdistrict: 637/1A
Entry Number: 155

-- but -- they may not have been married, if Doris did not die when reported, so Ivy's death could have been registered under another surname.

Having read through you other thread Maureen, and bearing in mind the fact that nobody can find a likely death in the right years, I think you need to accept that it's very possible that your grandmother and grandfather may have parted, possibly divorced, and that you grandmother just left for some reason.

That leaves so many possibilities for her death that I think the only way you are going to solve this is by finding a living descendant of one of Doris's siblings, as suggested by rootgatherer on the other thread.
There are two people on GR for instance who have Doris's sister Edna May Henson in their tree. If you search trees at the top of the page for Edna Henson born 1909 you will find a Lisa and a Diana who have her born Potterspury listed. You could send them a private message as they may know what became of Doris.

Failing that, you at least need Doris's birth cert for her actual date of birth as we have said. This MAY help to find her death and any possible second marriage that she may have had.

Please come back to us on THIS thread when you have her birth cert.
You can find the thread by clicking on 'My thread participation' on the left hand side of the screen.

Christine

p.s. I have found what I believe may be your grandfathers birth and death but I assume that you are only interested in your grandmother?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 3 Apr 2011 23:13

from the other thread:

The Son ... he married in march 1947 at the age of 25 and his step mum/ the second wife (Ivy) of William Earnest was in the wedding photos so william had remarried by then.

Sometimes it's nice to just put something to bed before it spawns more threads.

The son married in Pancras reg dist? It's the only one that fits for the name and date. The son's death:

Name: Ronald Howard Jones
Birth Date: 2 Jul 1921
Death Registration Month/Year: May 1997
Age at death (estimated): 75
Registration district: Brent
Inferred County: Middlesex
Register number: C27A
District and Subdistrict: 2211A
Entry Number: 92

Was the rest of the family in London at the time? Where/when did William Ernest Jones die? This could help locate the death of his second wife Ivy, and her full name and age at death could help identify her / the marriage.

(You say in the other thread "Yes have found William Ernest death. waiting for the certificate to come", which isn't really useful.)

What were William's details (age, father) from the marriage certificate (marriage to Doris)?

Hi Maureen

Yes I know, would be good wouldn't it if we could *try before we buy* ;-)))

I really wouldn't rule that one out though.......her age at death is correct for a birth in July - Sept 1900.

And truthfully - I really did find a death registered as John instead of Joan! Someone on here had been looking for such a long time for the right death, when he sent of for the one registered as John it was the right one. Don't suppose the index can ever be amended so it will always remain in the records as John. :-(((

This might be worth keeping hold of for now? The middle initial is V but don't rule it out completely for the moment, I once found a death for someone where it had been registered as JOHN instead of Joan!!

Name: Doris V Jones
Death Registration Month/Year: Apr-Jun 1936
Age at death (estimated): 35
Registration district: Kidderminster
Inferred County: Worcestershire

Hi Tootyfruity
Doris was 20 on her marrage certificate on the 26/6/1921 so that does not look like the right one. this is the trouble I have had. but I am new to this.
