Just as a point of interest, this appears in 1881 to be the MILLIGAN family that I found in 1871:

MULLIGAN, Michael Head Married M 54 1827 Tailor Dublin Ireland
MULLIGAN, Sarah Wife Married F 52 1829 Dublin Ireland
MULLIGAN, Sarah Daughter Single F 15 1866 Tailoress Brompton Middlesex

Registration District: St George Hanover Square
Sub District: St Margaret Westminster
Civil Parish: St Margaret and St John the Evangelist Westminster Municipal Borough:

Address: 1, Lancelot Place, St Margaret And St John The Evangelist Westminster
County: Middlesex

Linda, you need to understand that names on census records back then are subject to many variations mainly due to general lack of literacy (even by the enumerators sometimes!). - Look at the Spinder/Spender variation on page 1.

Do you know what Michael MUlligan's occupation was?

.. Was thinking if we follow that family through there's a chance that Mary Ann might turn up with one of those.

Linda

Linda Report 10 Apr 2011 09:52

apologies for asking, but has anything else turned up on mary ann please?

Linda

Linda Report 9 Apr 2011 20:14

Hi Marie Celeste, No her name was MULLIGAN. although father and mother and sister Sarah correct not the other siblings. You have MILLIGAN Surname.

Linda

Linda Report 9 Apr 2011 20:12

rootgatherer, yes this is her and strange she would revert back to previous married name, The John Mahoney would be my g/father and Kate my g/aunt. Since joining Genes I have found relations of the Heavey family, also Kate's family. Just want to know what happened to my gt gmother Mary Ann whether she be Mahoney or Heavey.
thanks everyone for doing all this for me its greatly appreciated.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 9 Apr 2011 13:18

It says on that 1901 census that she is married and the 3 boys are her sons. I am just wondering why she reverted to Mahoney when her younger sons are Heaveys?

Linda

Linda Report 9 Apr 2011 13:01

The original says born Cork

Linda

Linda Report 9 Apr 2011 12:43

Mary ann was born in Ireland in 1852 to father Michael Mulligan b1827 Dublin, she also had a sister Sarah Ann b 2 qtr 1865 mid brompton I assume that is over here in London.

Linda

Linda Report 9 Apr 2011 12:40

We think in Ireland, she had previously been married to John Mahoney, who died, then she remarried Patrick Heavey and having several children from both marriages after Patrick died , whilst at work, we have been searching to find if she did infact marry again, as they seem to have done in those days to support the children etc.

Rule out that family as the baptisms have the father as Samuel Joseph
