apart from the age of the First John 1755 I would say quite lucky to get that far. A local history group might help you further.

It depends what you set out to find. Do you want proof of every step - so what documents have you got? Do you just want to go as far back as possible - are you prepared to travel to look up entries not on the internet? Do you want to know what sort of lives they lead? Have you looked at wills? Have you found all of them in all censuses? Have you found all births, marriages and deaths? What happened to Percy's sister Elsie? If you are not pleased with what you have found, do you want some specific help?

As with anything when you start researching something lke this there is always a member of family that wants to know why you have to rake up the past, which means theres something to hide, i have come across many dark & deep secerts along the way, and yes i am having fun finding things out, i just dont know anything about this side of the family and wanted to know more.

the WW1 records are on ancestry.co.uk
but you do have to be aware that only about 30% of the WW1 records survived WW2 ........... they were moved to a building in London for safe keeping at the outbreak of the war, and a bomb fell on that building
Of the 30% that did survive, most are damaged in some way or other.
It looks from what Lindsey found that you are one of the lucky ones!
The Medal rolls do seem to have survived in their entirety
If you do not have a sub to ancestry.co.uk, may I suggest that you take out a 14 day free trial ..................... you have to provide a credit card number, and they seem to use it right at midnight on the 14th day! So, if you decide not to continue, make sure you decide by about day 10 and let them know at that point. Don't leave it to the last day!
Also ................ take out the trial when you have time to really use it, because you will find all kinds of things to look at!

Wow 2011 was the last time I posted about this family. I've gone back into my research and I don't know why but I have some sort of obsession with trying to find out anything about this side of the family.

Ok interesting?
I have my Percy as born 1883 Lambeth.
Was married to Alice Maude Hammond (this was my great grandmother)..... I know his sister was Elise Mary Holderness as she married my great grandmothers brother Charles Hammond (gets confusing) Child Kathleen Elise is correct (my nans sister)
I had his father down as Robert Edward Holderness not Frederick George Holderness.... so I think I may have picked a wrong line somewhere... oh dear!!
Thank you for this <3
