Eugenie Report 8 May 2011 01:07

Thanks for the links Flick, although I can't access the last one for some reason.

On the other two I can't find any reference to the marriage between William & Ann. Does anyone have the facility to find details of their marriage?
Or access to census records to see if there were any other siblings other than Agnes Lydia Wallace that Dea found previously.

Flick

Flick Report 7 May 2011 16:56

Try looking for their marriage on freebmd

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

If you don't find it there, look on the LDS sites.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

All are free sites.......keep them in your favourites....you'll find them very useful

Birth certificate has arrived for my GG Grandfather Thomas Wallace.

Thomas was born on 19/11/1841 at 21 South Street,Chelsea,London W1K 2XB
(Just looked on streetview!!! wish I lived there now)

Father- William Wallace-Servant
Mother-Ann Wallace formerly Jeffries

I would really appreciate if anyone can help with any siblings/marriage for William & Ann or parents for either of them.

Eugenie,

Come back and post the details on this thread as soon as you receive the cert and we can continue to work from there.

Sorry, I didn't think my previous comment had posted-ignore the duplicate.

Flick, Seeing as you have already found the possible birth record for Thomas Wallace in 1841 ( I will send for a copy, just a shame it takes so long to come through) it does look as if the Thomas in 1861 @ Winchester barracks may not be my relative.
Sorry to be dim but where did you find he was a fully fledged tailor and employed four staff by 1871?

Dea, the William & Ann/Martha is intriguing. I have not come across a Norfolk like before so that is interesting, I was starting to think I came from a very long London line.
Once I get the birth cert for the son-Thomas at least I will know his mothers name. I suppose William could have married twice?

Thank you both/all for your efforts and knowledge, it is proving to be a great help.

Flick

Flick Report 23 Apr 2011 11:17

Yes, Eugenie, I do think you're mistaken in thinking the chap in 1861 is 'your's......

And Dea has verified that by her posting of 1861.

The 1871 census I posted for him earlier states that he is employing 4 men.

The birth cert will be a big step forward for you.........enabling you to look for the marriage of his parents.

There are some possibilities for the marriage on freebmd, but I don't believe in working on anything other than facts...........

Dea

Dea Report 23 Apr 2011 11:05

It looks as though her name may have been 'Martha Ann' but that she used her middle name of 'Ann' most of the time.

I will apply for the birth cert that Flick kindly provided the reference No for in an earlier posting (Wallace Thomas William -Chelsea 3 41 ). Just a shame it takes days to come through!!

Flick-do you think I am making a mistake in thinking the Thomas Wallace in 1861 @ Winchester barracks is my relative?
Sorry to appear dim but where did you find he was a tailor employing four people by 1871?

Dea- Are you thinking that William Wallace was married to Martha rather than Ann?
I have never come across Norfolk link before, so that is interesting.

Again, I would like to thank you all for your amazing efforts and knowledge.

Yes, I looked at that 1841 too Ginns but, as you say, he states he was not born in Norfolk so I am not sure???

I can't find another one to fit though.

Is this the one to which you refer for 1861?

Name: Thomas Wallace
Age: 18
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1843
Gender: Male
Where born: London, Middlesex, England

Civil parish: Winchester St Thomas
County/Island: Hampshire
Country: England

Registration district: Winchester
Sub-registration district: Winchester
ED, institution, or vessel: Barracks
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 1

One year younger than 'your' Thomas, and I would have thought that a man who wasa fully-fledged Tailor, employing four men in 1871 would have been serving his apprenticeship in 1861.

To the best of my knowledge, there was no such thing as 'National Service' in the 1860's.......that was a strictly post-WW2 concept

Thanks Flick, that accounts for him after national service in the 1861 census.
I have also found a marriage certificate for Thomas & Emma dated 12/7/1874-which is where I got the William Wallace name from.
