Maybe some kind member could take a look at the details of the 1911 census as I think that Sarah and Mary are mistranscribed as HOLLODAY and they are living in Sudbury, Suffolk and both state their birth place as Ryhope :D

There is also a John Halliday born 1860 in Northumberland living in Sunderland in 1911

JaneyCanuck Report 15 May 2011 20:00

Aha, I posted the John earlier:

HALLIDAY JOHN 1860 51 Sunderland Durham ?

and wondered whether this was Mary:

HALLIDAY MARY 1899 12 Sunderland Durham

but you may have them there in Suffolk (but why?):

HOLLODAY MARY JANE 1899 12 Sudbury Suffolk
HOLLODAY SARAH AN 1901 10 Sudbury Suffolk

I don't pay either, but a wildcard living with search gets us:

SALTER EBENEZER 1839 72 Sudbury Suffolk
HOUSEHOLD SALTER FRANCES 1847 64 Sudbury Suffolk
SALTER ERNEST GEORGE 1879 32 Sudbury Suffolk

and a guess identiifes Sarah and Mary as boarders. Not much help!

I just stumbled on this site and this discussion.

Sarah Vera Ann Halliday Holtom was my grandmother.

She married my grandfather Ross Holtom on April 15, 1918 in Toronto.

He died on June 21 1944.

She died on March 16, 1969 and was the widow of William McKibbin who she married after my grandfather died.

I have a Halliday family photo from 1904 showing my grandmother, her parents, her sister Mary and her brother Joe.

A note in my mother's handwriting on the back of the photo says that there were 2 more brothers to come "Billy & Paul".

Hello Fred, seeing as it's 6 months since there was any activity on this thread it may be worth contacting Vicky by clicking the purple "Send Message" button under her name and contacting her that way.

To locate the Minto twp addy, you need a concession map.
There are concession maps for most of southern Ontario at
http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/countyatlas/SearchMapframes.php
in particular
http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/countyatlas/images/maps/townshipmaps/weli-m-Minto.jpg
In Minto Twp, a concession strip was 50 chains wide and a standard lot 20 chains, so 50*20=1000 sq chains, i.e., 100 acres.
Harriston was abt 60km NW of Guelph. and maybe 7 km S of Drew.

Here's the 2 US censuses mentioned. You're best to magnify them 4 clicks before saving the image.
