Hi Wendy

I have just seen this thread and wondered whether it is possible to look at Police records?. If so and you have time please could you have a look for Walter Grey ( b 1870 in Thornton Lincs) who was a Police constable in Nottingham Probably Bulwell Police station from about 1900 to 1902 when he left the Police force.

Sorry this is probably a big ask but I do not know anything about Police records or where they are kept. Any information would be great even if it is to confirm that he was stationed at Bulwel Police Station.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Jane,

Have had a look at the Nottingham City & Nottinghamshire County Police Register's for joining and leaving the Police Force and can find no record of Walter Grey.
The kind lady also looked in Police appointments and history sheets for him as they have restricted access and again no record of him there either.

How sure are you that he joined up in Nottingham police not somewhere else?

Jane Report 26 Apr 2014 18:19

Hi Wendy. thank you very much for trying to find Walter Grey for me.

On his first marriage cert in 1894 he was a PoliceConstable living in Raith Cum Maltby in lincs. I guess he was probably working at Louth Police station. That seems to be the nearest place to his home.

He remarried in April 1901 and his marriage cert said he was living in Nottingham and was a Police constable. So I thought he would work near home in Nottingham

I think the 1901 census has him as a Policeman living in Nottingham.

He had a son on 25th June 1902 in Bullwell Nottingham which is why I thought that this is probably where he was working as a Policeman. By this time he had changed jobs and he was working as a shoe repairer. (As stated on Sons birth cert). So he left the Police force somehwere between 1901 and June 1902. On his sons birth cert it said they were living at 29 Ingram road Bulwell.

So if he wasn't in Nottingham then perhaps he never left the Police force in Lincolnshire.

Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Wendy
Can you have a look for a Lydia Fewkes b abt 1830 in Beeston according to the 51 census when she was living in Leicester as a visitor. Can't find any sign of her before or after this date on the census or BMD, would love to know who her parents were.
Many thanks
