Yes, they're the dates I have for their deaths.

Ah, so 16 Stafford Street was a pub as well... In the 1901 census (if I remember rightly) they were living at the Greyhound Pub in Norfolk.

I haven't found a census showing William in 1861/71 as yet. I was assuming maybe he had joined the army by that point and was away somewhere - possibly in Ireland? I'm wondering if that's how he met Annie...

Thank you, Mary!

Mary

Mary Report 2 May 2011 11:32

Did Annie die in Docking 1916 age 63 = 1853 and William also in Docking 1920 age 83 = 1836/7

Was 16,Stafford St in Norfolk?

The Alexandra Tavern 16,Stafford Street Norwich NR2 3BB.

Strange William should be down as Bates 1841 /51 then later as Tyrrell.

Have you found him in 1861/71??

Thank you! Mary, I assume it's the right family... I thought Bates was used as William's middle name and he went on to give his son, Archer, the same middle name. I've seen this tree on ancestry and was hoping to work out more from it. I believe from an earlier reply that Robert was discharged from the army in the 1830's so assume he went straight on to work as an A/lab.

Thanks!

Mary

Mary Report 1 May 2011 11:17

Do you think you have the right family,Robert who married Susannah/Susan Bates is still in 1841/51/61/71/81 a A/labourer and William is still William Bates in 1851.
He was born 1836 before Susan married.

well 1911 Scotland is now on line. You would need to search on scotlands people yourself for this as it is a pay to view

Yes, Charles was Bertram's son! Archie is a bit of a mystery in 1911. I'm waiting for a copy of his RAF record. Seems he was transferred from the army at some point. I found his brother Frank's service record and he listed Archie as his next of kin and gave an address in Chesterfield, Derbyshire for him. However, I rather fancy Archie married my great grandmother in Scotland as I can't find his marriage details and I've asked for help before and nobody got anywhere. My grandmother was born in Chesterfield in 1912. I'm assuming at the time of the 1911 census he was staying with unknown people in Scotland or off doing something in the army?

Thank you Dea! Very excited to see his records now!

Jan, Archie was my great grandfather and that's the right birth district for him (we have his birth cert). The 1911 census is interesting at it lists William as an army pensioner so I'm not going mad! Thank you for that - I don't have access to 1911 census info at the moment.

Most helpful - you lot are great! :)

Thanks everyone!
Jan, I'm not sure where they got married as the info didn't say!
Record date was 1873, address at the time of marriage was 16 Stafford Street, Occupation: Soldier 1st Kings Dragoon, Father: Robert Tyrrell, Occupation: Soldier
The ref for this info is N/R 98196 DU-CI-MA-36279 d-277-3-11-098 if that means anything to anyone! I have no idea where it came from!

Dea, that's amazing! Thanks so much! Will look into that!
