i just caant make how great gran went from spanner to sanders to spanner again lol

i have on the pluss side found we are pedigree names on isle of white and they have a tree for me but does not go as far as where i am now with the lillie spanner questions lol

Have tried in vain to find a marrriage Spanner to Sanders (the first marriage) - your best bet is get the birth cert for Grace which will give you her fathers name or her wedding cert which will also give his occupation

Grace Lillie Mew died1992 Jan Q Winchester -date of birth 26/2/1911
but I cant find her birth reg under Sanders or Spanner

OK, this isle of Wight record gives her surname as both Sanders and Benton NOT Spanner.

I don't think that your Lillie Frances was a Spanner by birth. I think she was Lillie Benton who married William Sanders and then Percy Spanner.

It would appear that Lillie has no connection to the Isle of Wight.

Order Grace's birth certificate and I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that mother's maiden name is Benton.

Oops! I think you're right Astra. She was 1 month old on the 1911 census which was taken 2 April so would have been registered April/May/June quarter. Will amend my post.

Just wondering, Emma, what info did you have that Lillie's maiden name was Spanner and that she married Alfred Mew?
