At the date of his attestation as a recruit on 6th December 1915, he is stated to be 33 years ( months section is blank)

I haven't found his date of birth yet on his service records.
There is a copy of the death certificate there for his little daughter Lilian.

If the date on Familysearch is from an actual parish register, that will be the date recorded in the church's own register of baptism, as stated by the parents at that time.
...Perhaps it was harder to lie to the Clergy...?

But what i don't understand Rose, when you register a birth the date you give is the date they put on the Cert. Even if the date is a lie to cover up the fact you are late. That then should be the same date that i seen on Family Search or any site!!!

I will ask for someone to look up WW1 Service Records for me Thankyou!

Looks like there are British Army WWI Service Records for him on Ancestry. Perhaps someone with access could take a look?

If they lied about it for registration purposes, then they kept the ruse up as Richard believes he was born after April according to census ages.

I have him on 1911 Census, and your right he is 28yrs
Its ok Rose, im still gonna stick with Birth i have unless some else has anymore ideas???

Actually, not sure that is him in 1891. I don't have access to Ancestry now. I searched for Richards born in Liverpool c1883 and found that one. Seemed a likely mistranscription.

I found him on Ancestry as Mamwaery in 1891. He was 8.

Here are the dates for the censuses:

1891: 5 April

1901: 31 March

His baptism records put him born before these dates so he should be listed as 9 and 19. However, his ages seem to fit more with your birth cert.

I don't have him on 1891 Census, couldnt find him.
On the 1901 Census he is 18yrs.
That means, he couldn't of been born 13th March 1882 because he would of been 19yrs in the Census.
His Birth Cert must be right

Check census records too.

If he were born in March he would be 9 in 1891and 19 in 1901.

If born in May he would be 8 and 18.

I guess that when the birth was registered, the Registrar just recorded the facts as they were given to him.
Only with births of notables or more recently in hospital would there be information available to cross-check.

Yes thats when he married Jane Murphy, had an awful time trying to find her in the Census.
I did find who i thought was her and family, only to find later she was Catherine Jane Murphy!!! All sorted now lol

Hi Gwen........ I always thought once you register a birth thats whats shown on the cert. Because it was 1882, and god know's who Delivered him you could give any date???

I wonder if he ever knew?
