If he were 6 months old on the 1881 census he would have been born in 1880 as the 1881 was taken on 3 April.

Hi if that Henry James widower on herberts banns was married to Eliza Coop that would prove the line I am chasing. It is posted above showing just some of the children nowhere can I find him listed along side all the others. I believe Henry James 1842 father was also Henry James 1813 married to Eliza Watson. Thank you.

Very strange that he is never listed in the census as living with the father that he lists on his marriage cert. Maybe his birth cert would be one way forward.

Thanks for the help it certainly looks as though its the right family.Maybe the earlier post about a boys home might be the answer as his mother died when he was 9. I was aways told he was the black sheep of the family.....dont know why ? However there was always a Gervaise mentioned in the dim past and this family tree I have made contact with would make a Gervaise his GG Grandfather. so lots of pointers. I will get the birth certificate and see where it goes from there.
Once again thanks for your help and interest jacquie........

pm from Jacquie:

"Please can you give me some more details? Of how to find the boys school info. It looks like it could be an answer to why hes not on any of the Census."

Think this is in relation to the census I posted which could possibly be Herbert in young boys home.

Explained I don't have access to any other records.

Does anyone else have any ideas for Jacquie?
