just mentioning that the name confusion is because people' s names weren' t set in stone
Rose Rosina Rose Ann Roseann Rosanna Rose Hannah
could all be the same person at different times :-)
and the 1891 census doesn' t really say 'Roschama' that is just how the transcriber at Ancestry saw it even though it fairly plainly says 'Rosehannah'
Name: Roschama Long [Rose Hannah Long] >>> 'alternate info' added by an Ancestry user in 2010 Age: 50 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1841 Relation: Wife Spouse's Name: Seth Long
also it says 'Benj' not 'Beny' Slater

The marriage wasn't until December 1871, after the 1871 census, on which they are living together
That usually indicates that one of them was tied up to another spouse.............

To trace Seth Long and Rose Hannah Hindle back in time, are there sites that contain their BDM and parents same prior to 1837?
Help much appreciated

Huge amount of information thank you. I am very perplexed about the two potential surnames for Sarah Jane's mother i.e. Hindle or Slater.
The birth certificate definitely says (formerly Slater) but it would appear all the records show Rose Hannah Hindle marrying Seth Long (also recorded on Census as Rosina and Roschama but probably just what the recorder heard).
Then there is the birth of Rose Hannah Hindle in Haslington in 1840 which appears correct and suggests Rose Hannah was not married before and I can find no record of Seth Long marrying anyone else.
The inclusion of Beny D Slater with the family on that 1891 Census adds some credit to the "formerly Slater" on the Sarah Jane birth certificate.
Most confused. Could not find any record of Rose Hannah Slater birth so perhaps this is a mistake on records.

On the same page is Rose Hannah Hindle. Perhaps Rose had been previously married?

Sarah Jane Long was born in July 1878 in Bradford, married a George Morgan and emigrated to NZ around 1920 with their family.
I am having trouble tracing records for Sarah Jane and her parents and ancestors before. Her father's name was Seth Long and he married a Rose Hannah (I believe formerly Slater). I am trying to trace back on both Sarah Jane's paternal and maternal sides but am unable to locate the marriage of her parents to be sure of the names of her parents, grandparents and beyond.
Would appreciate any help people could provide ahead of a trip north later this summer where I would like to visit their hometowns.
Many thanks Bill
