Thank you Helen

Don't think thats them, her daughter Margaret was married and living with her husband,
Just had another look at the 1841 census and it looks as though Margaret Donaldson wasn't born in Scotland as theirs a tick in the outer square where it says born in England /Ireland?? Just thinking Haddington might have been classed as England when she was born ??Northumberland

This may be the 1851 census for the Margaret Donaldson mentioned.

Piece: SCT1851/685 Place: St Cuthbert's -Midlothian Enumeration District: 45
Civil Parish: Edinburgh Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 711 Page: 12 Schedule: 49
Address: 15 Gardners Crescent

Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
DONALDSON Margaret Head W F 75 House Proprietor Midlothian - Edinburgh
DONALDSON Margaret W Daur U F 37 Midlothian - Edinburgh

However, it doesn't look like this is your Margaret Donaldson / McAlpine ... her daughter Margaret, also being a Donaldson.

When Stewart married in 1847, her marriage details from the Old Parish Record would not state whether her father was deceased or not. It was only after 1855 when official records came into being in Scotland that the parents information would be recorded on the marriage certificate.

PLEASE GO TO BOTTOM OF PAGE
I've been trying to find death records for Margaret Donaldson who married John McAlpine in 1808 Haddington Scotland
I've found them in 1841 Linlithgow with their daughter Stewart although it has Son. I've not been able to find them after this date
When Stewart married in 1847 it didn't say her father was deceased??
I've wasted so many credits on Scotlandspeople thought I'd use a different tactic
I think they were born 1782c Scotland??
Can I have a 1851 census look up I've found a death for Margaret Donaldson 1853 Edinburgh a widow living at 12 Gardeners Crescent just wondering if she would be down as McAlpine or Donaldson, married women are buried quite often under their maiden name ???
