Hi my family are the Kelly's and O'Neils but they came from Ireland.MY GGGrandfather was Michael Kelly And he married Catherine O'Neill .I don't know where they were born or married in I reland but i do know they lived and had their children in Dunmore Galway as i have baptisms for all of the children.They are as follows Sarah b 1835, Bridget 1536 Patrick 1837, John 1838-1839,John 1840 my ggrandfather and Mary1843 . My GGrandfather John came over to the North East of England and Married Bridget Allen from Newcastle. Theylived in South Shields and had children there.I wonder if we have a link. Rose

Looking on the 1891 census at Edward and Alice living in Leadgate the reg district on there is LANCHESTER !!! sub district Consett which ties with the article I posted about Leadgate
SO would seem the Lanchester birth IS for the Leadgate Charles son of Edward and Alice .

This takes me back to the Bishops Auckland one then being your Charles

Do you know where Charles & Sarah died ? did they stay in Scotland ?

Leadgate is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated to the north-east of Consett. The Roman road Dere Street runs straight through the middle of Leadgate.

The place-name 'Leadgate' is first attested in 1590 and derives from the Old English 'hlidgeat', which means 'swing-gate'.[1]

Leadgate was the home of the workers and staff of the Eden colliery which opened in 1844, and was closed on the 18 July 1980. It was also home to many working for the Consett Iron Company (about 2 miles away) and which closed during the Premiership of Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s.

Leadgate now stands as a small village with a close-knit community. Plans to regenerate the area have been on the local councils' planning board for some time and improvements are being made.

The coast-to-coast cycle route runs through Leadgate and follows the path of the former Stanhope and Tyne railway. The last train ran on the line on 17 March 1984.[2]

now if this one is the son of Edward and Alice, which may seem likely with his second name being Edward, The your Charles must be the other one.

I havent been able to establish which reg district Leadgate would have come under.

Charles say he was born Bishops Auckland so alth he doesnt use the second name this could be him

Still don't know who Charles Quinn's father and mother was so any help there would be great. I don't think it the Edward I initially thought it was ??

i wonder where Ellen is ? She should only be 8 years old, maybe another relative has her in 1911, possible

maybe they stayed behind....
the address on grandmothers birth certificate is for Cowgate Edinburgh which I believe was a notoriously overcrowded slum area, where the majority of the city's Irish immigrant community was based.
