from familysearch.org

name: Cornelia Cardew Chilcott
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 25 Apr 1816
baptism/christening place: KENWYN,CORNWALL,ENGLAND
father's name: John Williams Chilcott
mother's name: Elizabeth
indexing project (batch) number: C02295-1

searching there for children of those parents ... they eventually resorted to numbering their children ... Septima and Octavia :-)

there is a daughter Caroline, and also another daughter with middle name Cardew

I would bet that this is Alfred's birth, given his daughter Emily's middle name

name: Alfred Jenkins
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 21 Oct 1814
baptism/christening place: St. Mary, Truro, Cornwall, England
father's name: Robert Lovell Jenkins
mother's name: Wilhelmine
indexing project (batch) number: I01787-4

1841

Name: Wilhelmina Jenkyn
Age: 60
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1781
Gender: Female

Civil parish: Kenwyn

Robt Jenkyn 65 - Captn Royal ... it looks like Miners, but Marines probably?
Wilhelmina Jenkyn 60
- they are not born in county

and

Name: Alfrd Jenks
Age: 25
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1816 not born in county
Gender: Male

Civil parish: Kenwyn

good heavens, I can't make out his occupation, but the next one in the household is a wild beastman ! ... the head of household is a labourer, then there are two musicians, then Alfred, yes, also a musician ... well, maybe not him ... ? but the only one I can find ... if he was seafaring, which would fit with going to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, he might have been on vessels

Alfred 1814 had a sister

name: Emily Wilhelmina Jenkins
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 21 Jul 1817
baptism/christening place: TRURO,CORNWALL,ENGLAND
father's name: Robert Lovell Jenkins
mother's name: Wilhelmina
indexing project (batch) number: P00963-1

so that is the right Alfred baptism for sure

and yes Bristol

sister Louisa Lavery Jenkins 1811 Bristol
sister Laura Charlotte Wilhelmina Jenkins 1805 Dover
brother Robert Kantenkamp Jenkins 1807 Dover

these would all be in connection with the father's postings I imagine

aha 1851

Name: Wilhelmina Jenkins
Age: 70
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1781
Relation: Head
Gender: F (Female)
Where born: Exeter, Devon, England

Civil parish: Kenwyn

groom's name: Robert Lovell Jenkins
bride's name: Wilheminha Hole

so look what I found at the Chebucto site !

http://ngb.chebucto.org/Stonepics/stonepics-hj.shtml

Stonepics Database

CD# -- Cemetery -- Name -- (Year of Record/Death) -- Number of Photographs

NF059 : STJ37 JENKINS, Cornelia Cardew (1857) - 5 photos

Alfred is not in that list

STJ = St John's

http://ngb.chebucto.org/Cemetery/1city-cem-idx.shtml

STJ37 - St John's 37 - Anglican, old, part 7 of 7

Newfoundland Cemetery ID: STJ37

Cemetery Name: St John's 37 - Anglican, old, part 7 of 7
On the big hill immediately southwest of STJ21-24 and adjacent to the prison. Very large and old with graves of many interesting people.

The CD costs $43 ( about £27) but with 5 photos of her grave it might be something to have

Marie can you tell us what your connection with the family is, it could help in searches ?

it sounds like Alfred may be a brother of of your ancestor ........... ?

Charlotte is still in Bedfordshire in 1901, so it's looking like she didn't have offspring.

Name: Charlotte C Jenkins
Age: 45
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1856
Relation: Niece
Gender: Female
Where born: Nf, St John

Civil parish: Dean

Octavia L Hoare 82 (died in 1901)
Charlotte C Jenkins 45
Annie C Webb 37
Alice Bettles 15

just no trace of her after that in the 1911 or marrying or dying or leaving the country ( harder to tell ) after that, though.

for interest because Octavia Hoare is an aunt ... must be on the Jenkins sisters' mother's side of the family ?

Marriages Dec 1865
Chilcott Octavia Lucy Truro 5c 289
Hoare James Raper Truro 5c 289

1841 in Kenwyn, Cornwall

Elizth Chilcott 54
Lucy Chilcott 19
Edwd Chilcott 16

do you know who Alfred's wife was or where he came from ?

Marriages Dec 1845
BRANCH Grace Truro 9 380
Burrows John Truro 9 380
? CHILCOTT Cornelia Cardew Truro 9 380
CUMING Stephen Truro 9 380
Jenkin John Truro 9 380
? Jenkins Alfred Truro 9 380
NORTHEY Sally Truro 9 380
Sweet Jane Truro 9 380

Cornelia and Octavia certainly sound like sisters :-)

They aren't in the 1851 census and there is no death (or remarriage) for Cornelia Jenkins in the index.

Cornelia in 1841

Name: Cornelia Chilcott
Age: 25
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1816
Gender: Female

Civil parish: St Mary Magdalen
Hundred: Taunton
County/Island: Somerset

not born in county, independent means, with one servant.

Hi
Thanks everyone, there are a few possible clues on the sites suggested but some of the parish records missing.
There is a note of a Samuel Jenkins born Bristol settling in Harbour Grace & raising a family . One of Alfred's siblings was born in Bristol but died as an infant. Alfred may have joined a brother or close family member there. There is also two Wilhemina Jenkins born Habour Grace but no details. Wilhemina was Alfred's mothers name. It may all be coincidence . So the search continues.
chrissiex I think you have found one of the sisters in 1891 in bedford.
Thanks again, Marie.

https://www.novascotiagenealogy.com/

has one death ( no marriage ) of an Alfred Jenkins

Jenkins, Alfred Hammonds Plains, Halifax County 1929

and that seems rather too late ... it could be the death of the AJ born 1910 ... yes I forgot you can view images, and it was the 1910 Alfred

Thanks Ginny
Like you I managed to trace them up to 1881 but then nothing.
They may well have emigrated or died.
I don't have a clue about the Canadian records, I spent hours trying to find anything .
I did find an Alfred Jenkins b 1818 in England , mechanic, emigrating to New York in May 1841 . he may well have been the Girls father, who went on to Canada, like so many more people but nothing positive.

George Report 5 Sep 2011 18:06

Hi
I am looking for any information on Emily Wilhemina Jenkins b 1852 Halifax, Nova Scotia & her sister Charlotte Caroline (unsure of this middle name) Jenkins b 1856 Newfoundland, Canada.
They were in England in Kenwyn, cornwall with their maiden Aunt Louisa / Laura Jenkins in 1871.
I think Emily went on to marry Emile Wendling , a french professor & had two boys Lionel & Noel in Durham in 1881, but after that I cannot find them.
I believe their father was Alfred Jenkins born 1818 in Truro but I cannot be sure of this even, he may have married in Canada.
They both seem to disappear after 1881in England & their early life is a mystery, I have very little knowledge of how to find the early Canadian records, if there are any for these sisters.
Any help on this would be appreciated, Marie.
