Jax,

Would he have changed his name by deed pole at that time ? would have needed a passport to go to Canada ? do you know how it would be possible to trace this ?

jax

jax Report 7 Sep 2011 13:49

He probably did'nt change his name by deed poll, just took on a new name, as for a passport I am not sure what they had to produce back then but if it was somesort of document it could have easily been forged.

Could have just stolen someone else's identity? Maybe someone who is more in the know about these things will be able to give you an answer.

I take it that it was never mentioned in the family that he had spent some time in Canada?

I have asked some others to take a look if no one else see's this first

Do you have his birth certificate? I cant see one that matches

Here the father has been transcribed as Wilde but he is NOT on the actual baptisim? Maybe his mother was not married, there are a lot of unmarried mothers on the register

Gee Report 7 Sep 2011 19:14

I understand that but I was asking if the birth certificate had been purchased as he could have been born Wilde (illegitimate) and his name changed to Pickett for what ever reason and then back to Wilde?

Just a thought

jax

jax Report 7 Sep 2011 19:20

I would think this is his birth

Is there a 1910 census for Canada that could give any details about Harry Wilde?

Gee

Gee Report 7 Sep 2011 19:39

There is a census at that time Jax but I cant see anything regarding Harry/Henry

jax

jax Report 7 Sep 2011 19:43

Ok thanks for looking Gins

If he is the correct man maybe he avoided the census?

jax

Gee

Gee Report 7 Sep 2011 19:49

Who did he marry, as in first wife and second? Sorry long day!

jax

jax Report 7 Sep 2011 20:03

He married Alice Ruddock in 1907 as Henry Pickett they have a child in 1908/9 the 1911
census's have been posted showing his first wife and child. on pg 1

First wife remarries in 1917 as he has been missing for more than 7 years and he also marries June's Grandmother Mary Thomas in 1917 in Liverpool as Harry Wilde

So I found the passanger listing showing a Harry Wilde going to Canada in 1909 and returning in 1911 which I feel fits in nicely with him going AWOL and setteling in Liverpool.

So really was just looking to see if there was any info about him in Canada for those two years as he does not seem to be on any census here

I have no idea... but I would think June Knows all about him after he married her grandmother

It is where he was between 1909 and 1917 we are looking for

Thats why I want to know if there are any canadian details anywhere to rule him out

jax

June Report 8 Sep 2011 12:47

Jax and Ginny,

He was born Henry Pickett in Stavely,Chesterfield in 1888, he married Alice Ruddock in 1907 and a son William Henry Pickett was born 1908
Henry apparently disputed that he was the father of this child and disappeared leaving family and wife unaware of his whereabouts and changed his name to Harry Wilde.
He appears to be in the 1911 census living in Prescot,St Helens under the name Harry Wilde as a boarder and the passenger information linking him to Canada in 1909 to 1911 also seems to fit in with his disappearance, the information relating his whereabouts between 1909 and 1917 is what I am looking for as I have some information about him from 1917 onwards. I assume that in 1908/9 divorce was not common practice ?? but it seems he went to great lengths to escape his life in Hunslet and having no contact with his family for what I understand to be severlal years until his sister found him in 1934 - Its an interesting story and I want to find out as much as possible about him.

jax

jax Report 8 Sep 2011 12:54

So the Canada trail is not him anyway then, as he would have been in Canada when the census was taken so not living in prescot

The Canada records show a return on 21st June 1911 could the census
have been done after that date ?

jax

jax Report 8 Sep 2011 15:00

No the 1911 census was taken 2nd April so I doubt very much that it is him now

The information below was relating to the 1911 census but I have no confirmation that this was him so either could be right ?
