I think James died 1898.. aged 44 that would tie in with the birth date of 1854.

Death notice 1898... On September 4 at Auckland Hospital, James beloved husband of Sarah Matthews aged 44... the funeral was to leave the hospital on the 5th and head for Otahuhu.

He is buried at Otahuhu Cemetery...

Alfred died 27 Aug 1923... as per rego but his burial they have changed his name to Albert ( and there is no Albert South death on that date)

i have sent away for some print outs on the foyes and Matthews

is newzealand the only country who has printouts on certificates
if so that's a very good thing as its cheaper and sometimes more info on the printouts......

see what happens in 3 weeks ...that's the only thing they take ages and ages to get to Australia :-|

They recommend getting print outs, don't know whether they are the only ones though.

And what about Jessie... did she marry a Morgan?? and I gather as James Augustus died in 1957 either he married her between Louisa and his marriage to Olive in 1951. Or did Olive not last long and he may have then married or lived with Jessie .. in NZ or OZ ?

any way ..jessie mary is my great gran she was a morgan allready but found out that matthews was married ...being too late.. was all ready preegie with my gran...he was with her at the hospital here in sydney and it states that they are married ..but i cant find a marriage any were for them ..she married a cartledge about the time matthews married olive here in sydney.....they remained really good friends as my mother used to say that gus often would come and see the family..

i had asked my mother quite a bit about him....but i have never seen a photo of him and i never heard my mother or my gran talk about him and wen i ask he was just gus not grandad

i remember wen i stayed with my grandparents and an old man was lying on the settee ....a bit sick......i was abt 6 yrs i allways thought it was my great grand father West that had died and i wasnt happy but now i think it just might have been my grt grd father matthews

Yes I can see their marriage.. do you want the full date... but where did they go... I cannot find a remarriage for her, nor a death for her under Clarke or Mueller or West for that matter?

OMG he was a bigamist... and sported several aliases.

As far as I can work out, they did not have any children... he did with someone else... I will send you the data by e-mail.

Now I have to find out what happened to her... if the marriage was annulled... but she did not marry as West.
