1871 Pauline said there is Sarah Hargraves in Doncaster Workhouse unmarried registered Blind as she is in 1901 with sister Amy Cass.

Found it (1871 Union Workhouse census), it also states that she was a domestic servant which is what she was on the marriage certificate.

I think it was in 1871 she may have been in a workhouse ?

'I found a George married to Priscilla who died, they had a child called Hanson, who I found living with the Ovenden family at some point.'

this is all too vague to help us at all ......... we have to go looking for it ourselves ...

George son of Christopher in 1851 was 19 years old, that is born 1831-32

the age '30' on his marriage certificate could have been fudged especially if he was so much older than Sarah


how do you know that the Sarah who is blind is your Sarah ?
can you tell us your relationship with these people ?
who it is you are descended from ?
if your couple did not have children, not from them ?

Just to prove that I'm not losing it, you did say, Pauline that she was with her father on the 71 census.

I realize it was probably just a typo and you meant 1881.

The George that married Priscilla.

June 2nd 1884 daughter Selina Hargreaves born @ 1858 Halifax married Pilling Ackroyd,George Hargreaves is a Shoe maker.

1871 Selina Hargeaves with mum Priscilla age 33 married.
Head of house Betsy Fimewell Priscilla's mum.

So if George is the same one who married Sarah Ann in 1868 then he was a bigamist.

oops I forgot to notice that the 'Priscilla who died' did it -after- the marriage to Sarah Ann ... so there's really no reason to think they were the same George ?

but it's possible since that Priscilla is not with her husband in 1871 ...

again complete info helps so much ... I can't find Selina and Priscilla Hargreaves in 1871 from that info ... here we are not quite as given

George married in halifax to Eliza Hanson in 1852 had Hanson son 1852 died 1877 married Ann Swift 23/10/1875 dad George a Stoker.

George a widow and Engineer son of Christopher a mechanic married Priscilla Thorp daughter of David thorp a weaver 6/101855 in halifax.
Witnesses John thomas and William Ambler,Priscilla signed her name George didn't.

Priscilla Thorp 1837 born to Betsy Thorp.

Betsy Thorp married John Timewell in 1839 in Halifax

Betsy Timewell (dad John Ambler) married Abraham Thomas 1871 one witness was Priscilla Hargreaves and william Ambler

So that George married twice at least.

so he married Eliza Hanson then Priscilla Thorp ... at least that George Hargreaves did, whether he is our George Hargreaves ...

I found it through searching Ancestry.com,marriage banns,census records etc.
