Dudley Report 16 Oct 2011 15:11

Hi Patchem
Sorry for the delay in responding.
I have been trying for over a year to find this Henry. As you say the census do not show a Henry Johns bootmaker for any year and there is no such birth in Soho.
It would seem Henry did not want to be traced or maybe there was a wrong transcription somewhere. Dont know to go from here.
Thanks for looking Dud.

Henry is born 1851 in 1901 and 1861 in 1911 (because he does not want to appear a lot older than Ellen?)

No obvious death for Henry?

I cannot find a bootmaker in 1891 or 1881 or 1871, with birth between 1851 and 1861 born Soho or Westminster.
I cannot find a birth for Henry Johns in St Annes Soho on London Parish baptisms.

Presumably you Mother was told very little about him?

Does Ellen remarry using the surname Johns?

Glitterbaby - sorry, added Weeden to my 1911 above.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 14 Oct 2011 22:33

I think that Frederick Robert on 1911 census is actually WEEDEN

There is on 1901 census a husband and wife - Charles and Ellen Weeden - Ellen 1874 Farnbourgh

Dudley Report 14 Oct 2011 22:28

It wqould appear that I can eliminate George/Jane and family .

On my mothers birth certificate it states the farher is Henry Johns. The mother is shown as Ellen Johns but this was untrue. They did not marry although she was using the name Johns. There was another daughter born in 1913 but died soon after. She was also given the name Johns. Henry the bootmaker then vanishes and Ellen does remarry in 1918. Dud.

getting more and more confused

Henry in 1901 born Soho is an errand boy and not a boot maker in 1911

Can you post the 1911 details that has Amelia

What is Henry's Father's name on the marriage certificate - or did he not marry?
What parents' names are on Amelia's birth certificate?
Thanks

My grandfather was the bootmaker who says on the 1901 and 1911 census he was born in Soho. On the 1911 he says he was married to Ellen. This was not true. One would think that if he was a bootmaker Journeyman in 1901 then he would have had this proffesion in 1891. However I have never been able to find such a person. The daughetr shown on the 1911 census Amelia was my mother. Dud.

Added. It is the St Anns Soho connection that has me going.

Dud, just for my old brain! You have obviously worked back to Henry born 1887. How have you done this? Do you have his marriage cert for example, or at least know who he married?

patchem Report 14 Oct 2011 22:04

The Henry in Aldershot in 1901 is a journeyman bootmaker, born 1851.
Which Johns are you definitely related to?
Henry, Jane and little John could all have died or be mistranscribed or emigrated, or remarried etc etc.
Thanks

Added:
If he is your grandfather, who was his son or daughter?

Dudley

Dudley Report 14 Oct 2011 21:59

Assuming this is a different family...where are Henry and Jane and little Henry in 1901.???

Dudley

Dudley Report 14 Oct 2011 21:57

Gliiter Baby.

Has Henry become George and Jane become Janet. The details of the son Henry would tie in with the 1891 census. I'm all confused. Dud.

patchem

patchem Report 14 Oct 2011 21:56

The census that glitterbaby posted for 1901 appears to show a different unrelated Henry, 1887.
Why should the single Henry in Aldershot be the married Henry from 1891?
