could anyone please help mygt grandmother was born in 1854 3 yrs before her parents ann and james were married but was james her real father as ann maiden name simmonds was married before to james lane who she married 12/10/1845 in lambeth he died and she married james fendell 26/6/1857 so is anne a lane or fendell? |

If this is your James Lane's death, it was Feb. 1853 so he couldn't have fathered a child born Oct. 1854. |

There is a Tree on Ancestry which shows the 2 marriages of Ann Elizabeth Simmons who married James Lane in 1845 and then married James Fendell in 1857 and has the birth of Jacqueline's GGrandmother Ann 1854 included in the Fendell family |

Oh rats! Ann Lane seems to be a widow on the 51 census. She's 25 and has a 2 year old daughter Ann with her, both born Lambeth. |

Trees on Ancestry need to be treated with caution. James Lane b 1825 Great Cheverell is on the 1851 census as unmarried, living with his mother, Sarah, so not likely to be the one who married Ann Simmonds. He is on every census until 1871, married to an Elizabeth in the 1861 and 71. |

whoever has that tree on ancestry have probly got the facts about james lane wrong. i thought i had seen that on the 1851 census a long time ago that was what made me wonder about ann i've only just got back to it as had a lot of family probs thanks for your help |

found james lane's death on bmd 1849 so the 1851 census that says ann was a widow is the right one i think thank you all for your help. |
